MIPI introduces new networking tech that doubles mobile data transfer rate to 23 gigabits per second

The MIPI Alliance, an international organization that develops interface specifications for mobile and mobile-influenced industries, has unveiled a major update to its MIPI M-PHY physical-layer interface for connecting the latest generation of flash memory-based storage and other high data rate applications in advanced 5G smartphones, wearables, PCs, industrial IoT, and automobiles. 

Version 5.0 of the M-PHY interface adds a fifth gear – “High Speed Gear 5” (HS-G5) at 23.32 Gigabits per second (Gbps) – enabling engineers to double the potential data rate per lane compared with the previous specification. Robot software company RoboDK has released a new palletizing plugin for intuitive programming of palletizing applications, compatible with almost any robot brand. It accelerates this normally tedious programming task and improves deployment efficiency.

Palletizing is an increasingly common application for robotic automation. For human workers, lifting containers onto pallets is dull and increases the risk of musculoskeletal injuries due to its repetitive nature.

OnRobot launches WebLytics software solution for collaborative applications

OnRobot, a maker of end-of-arm tools for industrial robots, is making its software debut with the launch of WebLytics, which the company describes as “a unique production monitoring, device diagnostics, and data analytics solution designed to enhance productivity and minimize downtime”.

Capable of monitoring the performance of multiple collaborative applications simultaneously and in real-time, WebLytics gathers equipment data from both robots and tools and transforms it into easy-to-understand, visualized device and application-level intelligence.

Nonwoven materials event INDEX opens after 18-month wait

INDEX20 opened its doors this week, after an 18-month wait, delighted to welcome the nonwoven industry back to Geneva with open arms. The exhibition floor was bustling with activity and anticipation at the prospect of new business.  

Over 500 exhibitors from 44 countries were present at the event, premiering their latest innovations. Organisers say the resounding message from the event was one of “a positive outcome and an inspiring vision” of the industry’s future across the spectrum of applications sectors.

The industry continued to evolve dramatically during the pandemic, and expectations were high as players from across the industry worldwide came together for the first time since 2017. ATI unveils ‘ultra-thin’ force torque sensor for robots

ATI Industrial Automation has unveiled its “ultra-thin” Mini43LP Force/Torque Sensor, which the company says provides “high-precision force sensing in a rugged, yet compact transducer”.

At less than 8 mm tall, the newest member of ATI’s force/torque sensor product range is “uniquely suited for smaller automated applications”, says ATI.
