SoftWear Automation launches ‘Sewbots as a service’

SoftWear Automation, a company which builds machines for the textiles industry, is launching something it calls “Sewbots as a service”.

“Sewbots” – short for sewing robots – is the name the company uses for its automated sewing machines, and whereas previously it was looking to sell units, now it will also hire them out.

Nidec to acquire 70 percent stake in Desch Group

Nidec Corporation has agreed to acquire a 70 percent ownership of a privately owned German company, Desch Antriebstechnik and its group companies in Germany and China, from its owners.

The transaction will be made through Nidec-Shimpo, a Germany-based affiliate of Nidec’s subsidiary, Nidec-Shimpo Corporation.

Desch was founded in 1906 and manufactures and sells large precision gearboxes. It has approximately 400 employees and last year had revenues of around $100 million.  [Read more…] about Nidec to acquire 70 percent stake in Desch Group

Van production expands for Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi in France

The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance has added new production capacity in its manufacturing facilities in Maubeuge and Sandouville, France.

Maubeuge serves as Renault’s small van center of excellence and Sandouville is the production center for the Renault Trafic van.

DMG Mori boosts its additive manufacturing offer with Intech deal

DMG Mori and Intech have sealed a cooperation deal in the field of additive manufacturing. DMG Mori is taking a 30% stake in the Indian software developer, giving it access to key software and technology know-how for generative production.

Intech is considered as a pioneer in metal 3D printing in India. It is committed to additive manufacturing and related software solutions, including machine learning and artificial intelligence for the metal additive manufacturing industry.

It will soon release numerous solutions, aiding users with ease of machine operations and process control, producing quality components at optimised costs.

Essentium closes $22.2 million in Series A funding

Essentium, a provider of 3D printing solutions for industrial additive manufacturing, has closed $22.2 million in Series A funding.

The round was led by BASF Venture Capital with participation from Materialise, Genesis Park, and previous seed round investors.

MacroFab’s manufacturing-on-demand business sees ‘record growth’

Houston-based tech startup MacroFab, which provides a manufacturing-on-demand platform, says it experienced “record growth” in 2018.

The company says it is “revolutionizing the electronics manufacturing industry” by building a marketplace that will benefit both its customers and contract manufacturers.

China’s GAC partners with Aisin to construct new $700 million factory to build autonomous cars

One of China’s largest automakers, GAC, has partnered with smart vehicle developer Aisin to establish a massive new factory.

GAC says the first phase of its “new energy intelligent and ecological factory” has been completed.

Robotics specialist Sewtec completes ‘six-figure packaging machine’ to launch new Tetley product line

Robotics specialist Sewtec has created a six-figure bespoke packaging machine for Tata Global Beverages, bringing a new Tetley fruit tea product line to market from its flagship UK plant.

Sewtec’s new technology has been installed in Tata Global Beverages’ largest factory across its global operations, located in Eaglescliffe, England. The plant operates 24 hours a day for five days a week, producing 260 million tea bags every week.

The Tetley brand – which operates across 40 countries worldwide and celebrates its 180th anniversary this year – is now able to pack 2,000 tea bags every minute with this new automated system. DMG Mori buys stake in Intech for additive manufacturing

DMG Mori and Intech sealed a cooperation deal in the field of additive manufacturing at the “formnext” in Frankfurt am Main, the leading international trade fair for additive manufacturing.

The 30% stake in the Indian software developer gives DMG Mori access to key software and technology know-how for generative production.

Intech is considered as a pioneer in metal 3D printing in India. Intech is committed to additive manufacturing and related software solutions, including machine learning and artificial intelligence for the Metal additive manufacturing industry.
