Flexiv unveils new operating system for its adaptive robots

February 23, 2022 by Mai Tao Leave a Comment

Flexiv, a developer of robotic and artificial intelligence solutions, has unveiled Flexiv Elements, its all-new operating system for “adaptive robots”.

Adaptive robots are a new category – very similar to collaborative robots – which Flexiv is concentrating on. It describes its “Rizon” model (main picture) as “the first adapative robot” – referring to its ability to maintain performance even amid significant changes in the environment, such as floating base, vibration, and human interference.

Created to provide integrators with “ground-breaking new features” which simplify complex robotic operations, Flexiv says Elements makes it “easier than ever” before to develop customized programs that enhance efficiency and productivity. Flexiv gains ‘world’s first’ CE and ETL certification for ‘force-controlled robot’

November 30, 2021 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

Flexiv, a maker of “general-purpose” robotics, has received CE and ETL approval for their Rizon 4 robot, making it the “first-ever” seven-axis force-controlled adaptive robot to achieve both certifications at the same time, according to the company.

Demonstrating the “intrinsic safety” of the Rizon 4 robot, the CE and ETL approval was awarded by the world’s foremost testing, inspection, certification and assurance provider, Intertek. Accepted in the EU and Northern America, the approval enables Flexiv to distribute the Rizon 4 in the European Union, Canada, and the USA.

Meeting or exceeding the strict CE and ETL requirements, the Rizon 4 was subjected to hundreds of individual testing, evaluations, and assessments focused on machinery safety, electrical safety, functional safety, environmental reliability, electromagnetic compatibility, and collision detection. ABB unveils weird magnetic levitation system for ‘multi-dimensional manufacturing’

January 28, 2021 by Sam Francis Leave a Comment

ABB has expanded its flexible manufacturing portfolio with the launch of an innovative magnetic levitation shuttle system.

The solution is the result of a strategic partnership with Planar Motors (PMI), which enhances ABB business unit B&R’s adaptive machine offering, integrating PMI’s new production technology milestone in open, adaptive manufacturing.

ABB says it is partnering with Canada’s PMI to expand its machine automation offering: The integration of PMI’s magnetic levitation technology into the company’s machine automation division’s (B&R) portfolio will accelerate industry’s transition from strictly linear production to an open, adaptive manufacturing space. Bright Machines launches ‘first software-defined microfactory’

June 27, 2019 by Sam Francis

Bright Machines has launched what it says the “first software-defined microfactory”.

The term “software-defined” is often used in computer networking and implies that a system is less dependent on specific – perhaps expensive – hardware and more defined by the software.

Bright Machines says it is delivering its vision of integrating software and artificial intelligence into every phase of the manufacturing cycle with the introduction of Bright “Microfactories”. [Read more…] about Bright Machines launches ‘first software-defined microfactory’

Elsevier releases two new books on control systems

August 22, 2016 by Abdul Montaqim

Elsevier has published two new books in the area of Control Systems.

elsevier book - control systems 2

Learning-Based Adaptive Control: An Extremum Seeking Approach – Theory and Applications by Mouhacine Benosman

Adaptive control is well understood, yet it has a very active research frontier. This book focuses on a specific subclass of adaptive control, namely, learning-based adaptive control.

As systems evolve during time or are exposed to unstructured environments, it is expected that some of their characteristics may change.

The book offers a new perspective about how to deal with these variations.

By merging together Model-Free and Model-Based learning algorithms, it demonstrates, using a number of mechatronic examples, how the learning process can be shortened and optimal control performance can be reached and maintained.

The book is aimed at researchers and graduate students in adaptive robust control, and engineers in the mechatronics field.

elsevier book - control systems

Control of Complex Systems: Theory and Applications edited by Kyriakos Vamvoudakis and Sarangapani Jagannathan

This book cover a variety of interests within the broader field of learning, adaptation, optimization and networked control.

It groups these topics into five sections:

  1. Introduction and Background on Control Theory
  2. Adaptive Control and Neuroscience
  3. Adaptive Learning Algorithms
  4. Cyber-Physical Systems and Cooperative Control
  5. Applications

The diversity of the research presented gives readers a unique opportunity to explore a comprehensive overview of a field of great interest to control and system theorists.

The book is intended for researchers and control engineers in machine learning, adaptive control, optimization and automatic control systems.
