How AI is Rewriting the Shopping Experience – Shopping Never Felt Stranger

September 26, 2025 by Sam Francis

Imagine that you just click on your browser or phone, ask an AI to find clothes that match your mood and taste, take a picture, check out how those sneakers look on your feet, get suggestions for shirts that match your style and maybe even earn discounts for products you didn’t even know you needed.

Welcome to the strange – and actually kind of sweet – shopping future!

McKinsey found that 71% of consumers desire brands to give them personalized interactions. When they do not, 76% of consumers report becoming annoyed. That is a significant number. [Read more…] about How AI is Rewriting the Shopping Experience – Shopping Never Felt Stranger

Google DeepMind unveils Gemini Robotics 1.5 to bring AI agents into the physical world

September 26, 2025 by Sam Francis

Google DeepMind has launched Gemini Robotics 1.5, a new vision-language-action (VLA) model designed to help robots perform complex, multi-step tasks with greater autonomy and transparency.

The release includes two complementary models: Gemini Robotics 1.5 and Gemini Robotics-ER 1.5. The former is DeepMind’s most advanced VLA system to date, capable of turning visual input and instructions into motor commands.

Unlike previous generations, it generates reasoning steps before acting, allowing robots to explain their decision-making processes and adapt more effectively to new environments. [Read more…] about Google DeepMind unveils Gemini Robotics 1.5 to bring AI agents into the physical world

Dyna Robotics raises $120 million to advance robotic foundation models on ‘path to physical artificial general intelligence’

September 16, 2025 by Sam Francis

Dyna Robotics has closed a $120 million Series A funding round, led by Robostrategy, CRV, and First Round Capital, with participation from Salesforce Ventures, NVentures (Nvidia’s venture capital arm), the Amazon Industrial Innovation Fund, Samsung Next, and LG Technology Ventures.

The new capital will be used to expand its world-class research and engineering team and accelerate the development of its next-generation foundation model as the company works to deliver high performance general-purpose robots in commercial environments.

Dyna has made rapid progress since raising a $23.5 million seed round in March, including launching its DYNA-1 model, a breakthrough robotics foundation model that pushed the performance of robots to a 99+ percent success rate in 24 hours of non-stop operation. Natural language processing and voice control for robots: The conversational robot

August 29, 2025 by Mai Tao

Robots are steadily becoming easier to interact with. For decades, programming a robot meant learning a proprietary interface or mastering complex code.

Now, thanks to advances in natural language processing (NLP) and voice control, operators can instruct machines using everyday speech.

This shift promises to make robots more accessible to non-technical users, expand their applications, and ultimately accelerate adoption across industries. [Read more…] about Natural language processing and voice control for robots: The conversational robot

More than half of developers say ‘LLMs can code better than humans’

August 28, 2025 by Mai Tao

A survey of 800 senior developers reveals rapid adoption of AI tools, but concerns remain around privacy, job loss, and accuracy.

With large language models (LLMs) rapidly becoming an unavoidable tool in the software industry, new research has revealed that over half (53 percent) of senior developers believe LLMs can already code better than most humans. LLMs are AI systems trained on vast text datasets to understand and generate human-like language. Examples include ChatGPT (OpenAI), Claude (Anthropic), and Gemini (Google DeepMind).

The survey, from Clutch, a marketplace for finding business services, polled 800 senior software developers in North America, highlighting how AI is reshaping the future of coding, with 75 percent of respondents saying they expect AI to significantly transform the industry within the next five years. Boston Dynamics and Toyota Research Institute demonstrate humanoid robot powered by ‘large behaviour model’

August 26, 2025 by Mai Tao

Boston Dynamics and Toyota Research Institute (TRI) have released details of what they describe as “a big step forward in robotics and artificial intelligence research”: demonstrating a Large Behavior Model (LBM) powering the Atlas humanoid robot.

In a video jointly released by the two organizations (see below), Atlas performs a long, continuous sequence of complex tasks that require combining object manipulation with locomotion.

By adopting LBMs, new capabilities that previously would have been laboriously hand-programmed can now be added quickly and without writing a single new line of code. [Read more…] about Boston Dynamics and Toyota Research Institute demonstrate humanoid robot powered by ‘large behaviour model’

IAB report: 9 out of 10 advertisers now using AI for video ads

August 25, 2025 by Mai Tao

AI-powered videos are ‘outperforming million-dollar ad campaigns’, according to a new report by the Internet Advertising Bureau

According to the the Internet Advertising Bureau’s 2025 Digital Video Ad Spend & Strategy Report, nearly nine in 10 advertisers are now using AI for video ads, with 40 percent of all ads expected to be AI-assisted by 2026.

The IAB is an American advertising business organization that develops industry standards, conducts research, and provides legal support for the online advertising industry.

The IAM used a family-owned tamale shop in Los Angeles as an unlikely case study in the power of AI-driven advertising. (Tamale is a traditional Mesoamerican dish made from a “masa” – a corn-based dough – that is steamed in a corn husk or banana leaf.)
