Agile Robots and Google DeepMind partner to ‘bring intelligence to robotics’

March 24, 2026 by Sam Francis

Agile Robots, a developer of humanoids and other robots, and Google DeepMind, the renowned AI lab, have formed a strategic research partnership to advance next generation AI robotics and “bring intelligence to robotics”.

The partnership is built on a belief that applying AI in the physical world will be transformative. The collaboration will bring cutting-edge AI into real-world robotic systems and enable adaptable, reasoning robots for industrial environments. It combines Google DeepMind’s Gemini Robotics foundation models with Agile Robots’ scalable industrial robotics platform.

By bringing together Agile Robots’ hardware and other AI robotic solutions developed in Germany, with Google DeepMind’s Gemini Robotics foundation models, the two teams will improve performance via robot deployment, data collection, model training and iteration. SMART and NUS pioneer neural blueprint for human-like intelligence in soft robots

February 6, 2026 by Sam Francis

Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology’s (SMART) Mens, Manus & Machina (M3S) interdisciplinary research group, and National University of Singapore (NUS), alongside collaborators from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore), have developed an AI control system that enables soft robotic arms to learn a wide repertoire of motions and tasks once, then adjust to new scenarios on the fly without needing retraining or sacrificing functionality.

This breakthrough brings soft robotics closer to human-like adaptability for real-world applications, such as in assistive robotics, rehabilitation robots, and wearable or medical soft robots, by making them more intelligent, versatile and safe.

Unlike regular robots that move using rigid motors and joints, soft robots are made from flexible materials such as soft rubber and move using special actuators – components that act like artificial muscles to produce physical motion. ABB Robotics launches OmniCore EyeMotion for vision-powered autonomy

September 23, 2025 by Sam Francis

ABB Robotics has launched OmniCore EyeMotion, which enables any OmniCore-powered robot to recognize its surroundings using any third-party camera or sensor and adapt in real time, even in complex applications.

Marc Segura, president of ABB Robotics, says: “Over the past decade, we have evolved AI vision to give robots “eyes” that can see the world in 3D, but previously this required advanced camera hardware.

“In one step, OmniCore EyeMotion grants any robot the ability to both see and understand the world around it, for a wide range of 2D and 3D vision-based applications, advancing autonomy and versatility.” [Read more…] about ABB Robotics launches OmniCore EyeMotion for vision-powered autonomy

OpenMind launches first open-source operating system for intelligent robots

September 17, 2025 by Sam Francis

OpenMind has released the beta version of what it says is “the world’s first open-source operating system for intelligent robots”, adding that it’s “a universal platform that allows any robot to perceive, reason, and act in the real world”.

Robotics has long been fragmented, with developers forced to choose between closed ecosystems, hardware-specific software, or steep learning curves.

This allows any developer to install fully autonomous software on their robots. [Read more…] about OpenMind launches first open-source operating system for intelligent robots
