Global spending on semiconductor fabrication equipment expected to reach record $109 billion

June 18, 2022 by David Edwards

Global fab equipment spending for front-end facilities is expected to increase 20 percent year-over-year to an all-time high of $109 billion in 2022, marking a third consecutive year of growth following a 42 percent surge in 2021.

This is according to industry association SEMI, which published the figure in its latest quarterly World Fab Forecast report. Fab equipment investment in 2023 is expected to remain strong.

Ajit Manocha, president and CEO of SEMI, says: “The global semiconductor equipment industry remains on track to cross the $100 billion threshold for the first time as shown in our latest update of the World Fab Forecast. Industrial robot costs to drop by half in the next three years

May 12, 2022 by David Edwards

Karthee Madasamy, founder and managing partner at MFV Partners

According to ARK Invest research, industrial robot costs will drop by 50-60 percent by 2025. This dramatic drop in costs, combined with other factors such as the global pandemic’s acceleration of industries embracing automation, has resulted in a situation where interest in robotics has reached a fever pitch.

In fact, in the first year of the pandemic venture firms poured $6.3 billion into robotics companies, up nearly 50 percent from the $4.3 billion they invested over the same period a year earlier.

Further, in North America, industrial robot sales had their strongest year ever in 2021. With this activity it’s not surprising that the global market is forecasted to reach $31 billion by 2028. [Read more…] about Industrial robot costs to drop by half in the next three years

Hannover Messe 2022 rescheduled for beginning of June

January 25, 2022 by David Edwards

This year’s Hannover Messe, one of the world’s largest trade shows for industrial technology, has been rescheduled for beginning of June. It usually takes place in April.

Deutsche Messe AG, the company which organises the event, says the decision to delay Hannover Messe is “due to the current situation surrounding Covid”.

It says that this year’s exhibition is now scheduled to take place from 30 May to 2 June, adding that the new date “provides exhibitors and visitors with planning security”. [Read more…] about Hannover Messe 2022 rescheduled for beginning of June

Perseverance’s first year on Mars: Purdue professor, mission team member looks at what is ahead

January 24, 2022 by David Edwards

Almost one year into the Mars rover mission, accomplishing its goal is on the horizon for Purdue University’s Briony Horgan and the Perseverance team.

February 18 will mark one year since the rover landed on the red planet following a seven-month, 300-million-mile flight across space.

Horgan, associate professor of planetary science in the Purdue College of Science’s Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences, says anticipation is building as the team focuses on the mission goal: researching a now-dry large river delta. Kivnon’s AGV ROI Calculation Starts on Product Delivery Date

January 17, 2022 by Mark Allinson

By Mike Kotzian, managing director, Kivnon USA

Modex 2022 in Atlanta March 28-31 will feature many AGV vendors who cannot deliver product this year. Too much emphasis has been placed on features, advantages, and benefits; too little attention has been paid to delivery dates.

AGV vendors must promise a delivery date with a guarantee not to exceed 180 days from purchase order to delivery. Failing to provide that commitment is unacceptable.

Solving the immediate challenges in production by delivering product by Q3 2022 and mitigating the hiring constraints plaguing industries must be the top priorities. The current state of the supply chain has exacerbated the situation. [Read more…] about Kivnon’s AGV ROI Calculation Starts on Product Delivery Date
