It might sound strange to some people but some Chinese companies have difficulties finding enough skilled workers for certain jobs.

You might expect that would not affect manufacturing because many jobs in the sector may require minimal training.

But, in fact, many jobs in manufacturing involve complex tasks which often require learning new skills and thorough training.  [Read more…] about HRG takes initiative in recruiting talent for robotics development

South Korea tops ‘Automation Readiness Index’

May 17, 2018 by Anna

South Korea, Germany and Singapore are the world’s top-ranked nations in their preparations for smoothly integrating intelligent automation into their economies, according to an index and report released today by ABB and The Economist Intelligence Unit.

The report “The Automation Readiness Index (ARI): Who Is Ready for the Coming Wave of Innovation?” finds that even the best-prepared countries must develop even more effective education policies and training programs, as well as place a new emphasis on continual learning over the course of a career.

Those policies and programs, the report recommends, must ensure that the rapid adoption of automation technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) will not leave people unprepared for the new, more human-oriented jobs that will be needed as robots and algorithms take on more of the routine tasks that can be and will be automated.

Hannover Messe: An überwhelming experience

April 25, 2018 by Abdul Montaqim

Hannover Messe

This is the second time I have been to Hannover Messe and I thought I was better prepared for what is probably the largest industrial technology show in the world.

But even though I had a lot of ideas of what to cover, it turns out that Hannover Messe has many more ideas than I brought with me and has overwhelmed me again.

The basic numbers about the show are impressive enough — close to a quarter of a million visitors over the five days the show lasts in the German city of Hannover. [Read more…] about Hannover Messe: An überwhelming experience

The route to fulfilment: Exclusive interview with DHL robotics boss

April 5, 2018 by Sam Francis

Exclusive interview with Denis Niezgoda, robotics accelerator lead at DHL

In this exclusive interview, Robotics and Automation News talks to Denis Niezgoda, robotics accelerator lead at DHL, who gets into details of the company’s automation strategy, highlights some challenges, and provides plenty of insight into numerous interesting initiatives DHL is currently engaged in.

DHL, as many will know, is the world’s largest logistics company, and Niezgoda says that the German giant is forecasting “solid improvements” in global shipments, especially in its freight forwarding business – ocean freight, road freight, and rail freight – which are among its core business activities.

“One of the biggest growth factors is online shopping or e-commerce, where we see steady, low double-digit growth – not just only in domestic shipments, but what is getting much more interesting in the past one or two years is cross-border shipments,” says Niezgoda.  [Read more…] about The route to fulfilment: Exclusive interview with DHL robotics boss

The global Industrial Robotics Industry was estimated at $25.68 billion in 2013 and is expected to reach $40 billion by 2020, according to market research by Million Insights.

The desire to reduce operational costs by many manufacturing companies is expected to drive the global market growth, which can be majorly attributed to the adoption of automation through robotics.

Average labor costs in China have been rising by nearly 10 per cent yearly. The use of robots in industries has helped to reduced workers idle time by 80 per cent and save more than 50 per cent of the production cost, leading to significant cost savings.
