Waypoint Robotics launches MAV3K omnidirectional autonomous mobile robot

April 16, 2019 by Anna

Waypoint Robotics has launched the MAV3K (pronounced May-vick) industrial grade autonomous mobile robot (AMR). It has a 3000lb carrying capacity and omnidirectional mobility.

MAV3K comes equipped with Waypoint’s Dispatcher software, allowing it to be set up and autonomously operating in under 15 minutes.

MAV3K’s batteries keep it moving through the longest workday and Waypoint’s EnZone wireless charging system enables MAV3K to charge itself.

Veo Robotics could make all industrial robots collaborative

April 15, 2019 by Sam Francis

veo robotics montage

Traditional industrial robots tend to be very large and potentially dangerous, which is why they tend to be caged off and kept separate from human workers.

But a new company called Veo Robotics says it has the technology to transform traditional industrial robotic arms into safe machines that humans can work alongside, within close proximity.

Veo’s solution could make every industrial robot a collaborative robot. The term “collaborative” is recognized by international standards organizations and usually applies to much smaller, newer types of robots which are specifically designed to safe for humans to work with.  [Read more…] about Veo Robotics could make all industrial robots collaborative

By Eric Jensen, head of IoT product management at Canonical

2019 will be a big year for robotics, as we begin to see the expansion of automation technologies into new markets.

But with IoT security still a weak spot, one major attack within robotics could have a domino effect on the entire industry.

Add to this the verticals that robots are beginning to infiltrate – healthcare and agriculture for example – and the threat becomes immediate and very real.  [Read more…] about Could an IoT security domino effect derail robotics before it ever goes mainstream?

Promoted

Artificial intelligence and robotics result in a powerful combination when it comes to automating tasks both inside and outside the factory setting.

Artificial intelligence is becoming more and more present in recent years in robotic solutions, thus introducing learning capabilities and flexibility in what were consider rigid applications.

Despite the fact that artificial intelligence is still in its early stages and many have not yet felt the impact that artificial intelligence has, it has been a transformative technology when it comes to certain applications within the manufacturing sector.  [Read more…] about How The Field Of Robotics Is Benefiting From Advancements Made In Artificial Intelligence

Construction and mining ‘next frontier’ for robotics adoption, says research company

January 22, 2019 by David Edwards

mining robot

The construction and mining industries are the “next frontier” for robotics adoption, according to a report by ABI Research.

In the past, for heavy industry-related locations like mines, robots must either be controlled by teleoperation or navigate autonomously across uneven terrain or within subterranean interiors with little to no human interaction.

This was the same for construction sites, where robots must understand changing floor plans, keep track of inventory, and navigate stairs.  [Read more…] about Construction and mining ‘next frontier’ for robotics adoption, says research company
