Michigan State University scientists use AI to grow gigantic diamond worth trillions in lab

February 20, 2026 by David Edwards

Natural diamonds are ‘actually lower quality than the kind of diamond we grow’, say researchers

Diamond is more than just a gemstone; it is the hardest natural substance on Earth with exceptional qualities for improving semiconductors – the materials used in electronics, electric vehicles and renewable energy technologies.

Michigan State University has received a $3 million National Science Foundation grant as part of the NSF’s Future Manufacturing program in collaboration with teams at the Fraunhofer USA Center Midwest and Fraunhofer USA Center Mid-Atlantic.

The teams are using artificial intelligence to grow high-quality diamond in labs, which could be the key to the future of semiconductor manufacturing and advancing workforce talent in the US. Toyota Canada to deploy Agility Robotics’ humanoid Digit in manufacturing operations

February 20, 2026 by David Edwards

Agility Robotics, creator of the general-purpose humanoid robot Digit, says Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC) has signed a commercial agreement with the company.

After a successful pilot, TMMC plans to deploy Agility’s robot, Digit, in its facilities to support employees with manufacturing, supply chain and logistics operations.

Tim Hollander, president, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, says: “Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada has long been a leader in automotive manufacturing innovation. [Read more…] about Toyota Canada to deploy Agility Robotics’ humanoid Digit in manufacturing operations

5 Best Warehouse Management Systems for 3PLs

February 19, 2026 by David Edwards

Running a third-party logistics operation means juggling multiple clients, complex billing structures, tight SLAs, and constant pressure to grow – all at the same time. A generic warehouse management system wasn’t built for that kind of complexity.

What separates a 3PL-specific WMS from standard warehouse software comes down to a few things: multi-client architecture, automated client billing, and customer-facing portals that give your clients real-time visibility into their inventory.

That’s why choosing the right WMS matters so much for 3PLs. The wrong system creates manual work, slows down client onboarding, and turns billing into a weekly headache. The right one becomes the operational backbone that lets you take on new business with confidence. [Read more…] about 5 Best Warehouse Management Systems for 3PLs

When the Algorithm Fails: Who is Legally Responsible After a Waymo Accident?

February 19, 2026 by David Edwards

The Technology is Impressive, But it’s Not Infallible

Waymo’s autonomous vehicles are, by most technical measures, a remarkable achievement. Each car is equipped with a suite of LiDAR sensors, radar, cameras, and a continuously updated AI model trained on billions of miles of real-world and simulated driving data.

Alphabet’s robotaxi division has positioned itself as the safest self-driving platform on the road, and statistically, there is data to support that claim.

But “safer on average” is not the same as “safe in every situation.” Since Waymo expanded its commercial operations in San Francisco, Phoenix, and Los Angeles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has logged multiple incident reports involving its vehicles. 6 AI Construction Estimating Software Tested on Complex Project Accuracy

February 19, 2026 by David Edwards

One missed take-off line can add six figures to a bid. In a recent Procore survey, 48 percent of construction leaders called AI the most critical tech for future project delivery.

We put six AI-powered estimating platforms – led by enterprise veteran InEight Estimate – through a multidisciplinary test to see which ones nail the numbers fast and which still guess. The stakes: ship a rapid bid without giving up accuracy. Here’s what we found. [Read more…] about 6 AI Construction Estimating Software Tested on Complex Project Accuracy

Designing for Automation in Injection Molding: How Product Design Drives Robotic Manufacturing Efficiency

February 19, 2026 by David Edwards

The use of automation in injection molding has developed beyond the basic part extraction into all-inclusive robotic cells that manage the molding process, inspection, assembly, and packaging.

With seemingly great emphasis on the selection of robots, end-of-arm tooling (EOAT), and control systems, the critical elements that determine the success of automation are often made at a much earlier stage when the product is being designed.

Geometry, material behavior, and handling features of parts have a direct impact on cycle time, and defect rates. Design for Automation (DfA) is a base engineering discipline that connects product design, mold design, and manufacturing productivity. Ensuring Safe and Compliant Deployment of Medical Robotics

February 19, 2026 by David Edwards

Medical robotics is not just a futuristic idea today. That’s why you now witness many robotic systems assisting surgeons, helping with rehab therapy, and automating hospital tasks, all over the world. As tech adoption continues to rise, regulatory pressure and liability risks also increase.

So, if you wish to deploy medical robotics, you need a clear strategy that protects patients, meets compliance standards, and strengthens operational safety from the get-go. [Read more…] about Ensuring Safe and Compliant Deployment of Medical Robotics

Smart Wearables as Personal Automation Devices: The Evolution of the Apple Watch

February 19, 2026 by David Edwards

The Apple Watch began as a notification mirror, but it behaves more like an automation layer that keeps you out of the “phone distraction trap.”

Most digital stress isn’t caused by big tasks – it’s caused by tiny interruptions that repeat all day. The watch’s best trick is making those interruptions shorter and rarer.

A wearable only earns space on your body when it’s fast, private, and predictable. Through watchOS 26, stronger health insights like Sleep Score and hypertension notifications, and intelligence features that borrow Apple Intelligence from your iPhone, the Watch is aimed at one outcome: reducing friction in the moment. Why SEO is Becoming Critical for Robotics and Automation Companies

February 14, 2026 by David Edwards

By Livija Kasteckaitė

Industrial robotics and automation markets are growing, and that growth brings denser competition and more fragmented buyer journeys. The International Federation of Robotics reports 542,000 industrial robots installed in 2024, more than double the number a decade earlier, with the global operational stock reaching 4,664,000 units in 2024.

At the same time, industrial buying has moved decisively toward self service digital research. McKinsey reports rising expectations for a sophisticated buying experience and documents a global survey of nearly 4,000 B2B decision makers across 34 sectors.

Search is also changing structurally. Google’s AI features, including AI Overviews and AI Mode, can expand how users discover sources, using techniques like query fan out and surfacing supporting links. Google is explicit that foundational SEO best practices still apply and that there are no special optimizations required specifically for AI features. Robotics & Automation News publishes in-depth trend analysis on the future of drone logistics

February 13, 2026 by Sam Francis

Robotics & Automation News has released a new premium industry report examining the operational realities, economic constraints, and long-term outlook for drone delivery systems.

Titled Drone Logistics: Infrastructure, Economics and Market Outlook (2026-2032), the Trend Analysis provides a structured assessment of a sector that has moved beyond early-stage experimentation and is entering a more commercially disciplined phase.

While drone delivery has often been framed as a disruptive force in last-mile logistics, the report concludes that the technology is more likely to develop as a specialised layer within broader distribution networks rather than a universal replacement for ground transport.
