From Conventional Diggers to Robot-Operated Earth-Movers: The Next Hire Revolution

November 6, 2025 by Sam Francis

Earth-moving equipment has always been a symbol of raw mechanical strength – thundering engines, hydraulic muscle, and the unmistakable hum of steel meeting soil. But over the last decade, the construction and hire sectors have been quietly rewiring their future.

Sensors, automation platforms, AI-driven precision, and robotics are now shaping a new generation of diggers that no longer rely solely on human hands. What once required long hours, expert operators, and considerable on-site coordination is becoming more efficient, safer, and far more predictable.

Contractors looking for an edge are increasingly turning to smarter machines, and hire companies are recognising that a fleet can no longer compete on horsepower alone. The shift from conventional diggers to semi-autonomous and fully robotic earth-movers is reshaping the entire rental model. Construction and demolition robots: Building the future

September 12, 2025 by Mai Tao

Construction is on the cusp of transformation. Rising labor shortages, safety challenges, and cost pressures are propelling the integration of robotics into the field.

As automation evolves, robots are no longer confined to manufacturing floors – they’re becoming essential partners in building the future safely, efficiently, and sustainably. [Read more…] about Construction and demolition robots: Building the future

Startup Built Robotics raises $15 million to develop technology to enable autonomous construction

March 19, 2018 by Sam Francis

A startup company called Built Robotics has raised at least $15 million to develop technology that would enable construction equipment such as bulldozers, earth diggers and excavators to operate themselves.

Self-operating construction equipment would obviously save a significant amount of the costs associated with construction as humans would not need to be driving those vehicles any more.

It might also make the industry safer.

Speaking to USA Today, founder Noah Ready-Campbell, says: “The idea behind Built Robotics is to use automation technology make construction safer, faster and cheaper.”  [Read more…] about Startup Built Robotics raises $15 million to develop technology to enable autonomous construction
