Industrial IoT in Manufacturing: Driving Smart Factory Efficiency and Sustainability

March 5, 2026 by David Edwards

The manufacturing industry is at the forefront of a technological revolution, driven by the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). As factories become smarter and more connected, IIoT is enabling organizations to optimize production, reduce operational costs, and enhance sustainability.

Smart factories powered by IIoT are no longer a concept of the future they are a reality that is reshaping how manufacturers operate, compete, and grow in the era of Industry 4.0. [Read more…] about Industrial IoT in Manufacturing: Driving Smart Factory Efficiency and Sustainability

The Global Expansion of Data Centers: What Businesses Need to Know

March 5, 2026 by David Edwards

The digital landscape is shifting under our feet, and it’s happening faster than most of us realize. Honestly, it can feel a bit overwhelming to keep up. Not long ago, the conversation around data centers was limited to dusty IT rooms and basement servers.

Today, these facilities have become the literal backbone of the modern economy. As businesses look toward international growth, the physical location of their digital infrastructure has become a deciding factor in their success.

The global expansion of data centers isn’t just a technical trend. It is a fundamental change in how commerce, communication, and innovation function on a global scale. [Read more…] about The Global Expansion of Data Centers: What Businesses Need to Know

Perspective from Zebra Technologies: Pocket automation – the pragmatic path to a resilient supply chain in 2026

March 4, 2026 by David Edwards

By Andre Luecht, global strategy lead – transport and logistics at Zebra Technologies

While full-site automation grabs headlines, the most decisive trend involves targeted, scalable investments that empower frontline workers, build resilience, and perfect the all-important final customer touchpoint.

Discussions about the future of manufacturing and logistics often conjure images of vast, lights-out facilities operating with near-total autonomy. While these visions capture the imagination, the practical path forward for most organizations in 2026 looks quite different.

Faced with persistent economic uncertainty and intense cost pressures, leaders find themselves questioning the wisdom of massive, high-risk capital expenditures. The real, decisive trend shaping our industry lies not in monolithic, top-down automation but in a more pragmatic, ground-up approach: “pocket automation”. Japan’s ‘first’ 2-story 3D printed house obtains seismic approval from government

March 4, 2026 by David Edwards

Kizuki has completed Japan’s first government approved two-story 3D printed reinforced concrete house. The project meets Japan’s stringent seismic design requirements and demonstrates that 3D printed reinforced concrete can be applied as a structural alternative to timber construction in one of the world’s most earthquake-prone regions.

  • First government approved two-story 3D printed reinforced concrete house in Japan
  • Full seismic compliance confirmed under national building standards
  • Total printed area of 50 m² (537 sq.ft.) across two floors using 39 m³ (1,371 cu.ft.) of material
  • Cave-inspired architecture featuring 3D printed arches, floor slab, and roof slab
  • Four-person crew operating the printer under seasonal conditions ranging from below 10 °C (50 °F) to 35 °C (95 °F)
  • Custom printer configuration enabling printing from 0,5 m (20 in) below ground to a total height of 7 m (23 ft)

The 50 m² (537 sq.ft.) house consists of a 31 m² (329 sq.ft.) ground floor and a 19 m² (209 sq.ft.) upper floor. The design follows a cave-inspired architectural concept, incorporating 3D printed arches, a 3D printed floor slab, and a 3D printed roof slab. Several interior elements were produced using 3D printing to extend the curved geometry throughout the interior. German technology company CorTec implants second human with its brain-computer interface

March 4, 2026 by David Edwards

Second implantation at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle marks continued progress in the FDA-approved study informed by promising results from the first participant.

CorTec, a pioneer in active implantable medical technologies, has announced the “successful second implantation” of its proprietary Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) system, the Brain Interchange, in an FDA‑approved clinical trial involving stroke patients at Harborview Medical Center, a major site of UW Medicine.

The implantation follows encouraging neurological gains observed in the study’s first participant, whose rehabilitation progress has strengthened confidence in CorTec’s fully implantable platform for stroke recovery.

This represents another key milestone in the joint effort to evaluate CorTec’s fully implantable closed-loop BCI platform, developed and manufactured entirely in Germany, for therapeutic applications in neurological disorders. University of Waterloo scientists develop way of ‘translating music into light and motion with robots’

March 4, 2026 by David Edwards

Robots the size of soccer balls create new visual art by trailing light that represents the ‘emotional essence’ of music

A system developed by researchers at the University of Waterloo, in Canada, lets people collaborate with groups of robots to create works of art inspired by music.

The new technology features multiple wheeled robots about the size of soccer balls that trail coloured light as they move within a fixed area on the floor in response to key features of music including tempo and chord progression.

A camera records the co-ordinated light trails as they snake within that area, which serves as the canvas for the creation of a “painting”, or visual representation of the emotional content of a particular piece of music.
