Humanoid and Schaeffler strike deal to deploy thousands of humanoid robots in factories

May 13, 2026 by David Edwards

Humanoid, a UK-based AI and robotics company, has signed a binding, phased deployment and supply agreement with Schaeffler, a leading motion technology company, to integrate humanoid robots directly into live manufacturing operations.

The first systems go live in Germany before the end of 2026. Humanoid will also purchase actuators from Schaeffler as a preferred supplier.

The agreement is one of the largest disclosed humanoid robot rollouts ever announced and positions Humanoid, founded by Artem Sokolov in 2024, among the youngest companies to secure a large-scale contract at this level. It targets deployment of a four-digit number of wheeled units across Schaeffler’s global facilities by 2032. Seegrid surpasses 20 million autonomous miles in industrial facilities

May 12, 2026 by David Edwards

Autonomous mobile robot developer Seegrid says its fleet has surpassed 20 million autonomous miles driven across customer production environments, marking a major milestone for the company’s operations in manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics.

The company says the total distance travelled by its autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) is equivalent to circling the Earth more than 800 times, with all miles logged inside active industrial facilities rather than controlled test environments.

Seegrid’s systems are deployed in large-scale production operations, including automotive manufacturing plants and warehouse environments operating around the clock. [Read more…] about Seegrid surpasses 20 million autonomous miles in industrial facilities

The Convergence of AI, IoT, and Robotics in Modern Manufacturing

May 12, 2026 by David Edwards

Manufacturing had long relied on fixed schedules and manual control. Inventories were adjusted following shortages. Machines were repaired only after they broke down.

Production goals were frequently set on assumptions and not from real operational data. That model is changing quickly.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity along with robotics are propelling manufacturing into a more predictive configuration. [Read more…] about The Convergence of AI, IoT, and Robotics in Modern Manufacturing

Krones unveils ‘first-ever’ use of robotics for container distribution

May 7, 2026 by David Edwards

Krones says it has had “great success” using robotics to group packs into pallet layers for several years. And now, for the first time, the same principle has been adapted to distribute containers as they approach the packer.

With Robobox SynFlow, Krones has brought a new, modular system to market that is the first to use robotic technology to reliably and gently distribute containers into designated lanes. [Read more…] about Krones unveils ‘first-ever’ use of robotics for container distribution

ABB Robotics launches new automated surface finishing cell

May 1, 2026 by David Edwards

ABB Robotics has launched its first fully automated sanding and polishing cell – the OmniVance Collaborative Surface Finishing Cell, empowering a new wave of manufacturers to automate key surface finishing tasks, such as sanding and polishing.

Craig McDonnell, managing director business line industries, ABB Robotics, says: “A growing number of companies are looking to automate processes such as sanding and polishing, but many smaller businesses lack in-house robotics expertise – so while they need to deliver perfect quality every time, until now, many have not had a solution that fits their needs.

“Many businesses are wary of investing in complex, bespoke automation, while off-the-shelf tools lack the scalability and capability they require. With our new OmniVance Collaborative Surface Finishing Cell, we’re introducing industrial-grade robotics in a simple, affordable, and scalable solution.” [Read more…] about ABB Robotics launches new automated surface finishing cell

The Hidden Ingredient Layer Behind Automated Food Processing

April 28, 2026 by David Edwards

Food factories love visible progress. A new robot arm. A cleaner packaging cell. A faster conveyor. A vision system that spots defects before a human operator would even notice them.

But a surprising amount of automation performance is decided before any of that equipment touches the product.

It starts in the mix tank, the formulation room, the chilling step, the coating drum, the dough sheet, the marinade, the binder, the stabilizer, and the moisture level. The boring stuff, basically. The stuff that doesn’t photograph well at trade shows. [Read more…] about The Hidden Ingredient Layer Behind Automated Food Processing

ABB Robotics launches high-speed PoWa collaborative robot range

April 23, 2026 by David Edwards

ABB Robotics is combining the flexibility of collaborative robots with higher payloads and performance, with the launch of its new PoWa cobot family into the rapidly expanding global collaborative robot market, which ABB Robotics estimates will grow by 20 percent annually through to 2028.

Andrea Cassoni, head of collaborative robots at ABB Robotics, says: “Cobots are growing significantly faster than traditional industrial robots, driven by demands from both small and midsized companies starting their automation journey as well as large enterprises.

“These customers are seeking higher speeds and payloads, but also greater ease of use, and compact designs. Established manufacturers want to automate heavier, fast cycle applications, without the complexity and operational rigidity of traditional industrial robots.
