Denso takes a stake in Infineon Technologies to advance automated driving

Automotive supplier Denso Corporation has taken an unspecified stake in Infineon Technologies AG, one of the top manufacturers of in-vehicle semiconductor products, to accelerate the development of technology to achieve next-generation vehicle systems such as automated driving.

With the investment, Infineon Technologies’ advanced semiconductor technologies will be combined with Denso’s in-vehicle technologies and expertise to accelerate the development of new and emerging mobility solutions.

Due to increased functionality of vehicles and advanced electronic control, the demand for semiconductor products is growing exponentially.

Infineon establishes development center for automotive electronics and AI in Dresden

Infineon is setting up a new Development Center at its Dresden location, creating around 100 additional new jobs in the first phase and employing a total of around 250 people in the medium term.

One focus of it will be to develop new products and solutions for automotive and power electronics, as well as artificial intelligence. It is scheduled to be launched in the course of the 2018 calendar year.

In Dresden, the Infineon Group already has one of its largest and most cutting-edge locations for developing wafer technologies and manufacturing processes, as well as a highly automated production plant.

Cree acquires Infineon RF Power Business

Cree, Inc. has acquired assets of Infineon Technologies AG Radio Frequency (RF) Power Business for approximately €345 million. The transaction expands the Cree Wolfspeed business unit’s wireless market opportunity.

“The acquisition strengthens Wolfspeed’s leadership position in RF GaN-on-SiC technologies and provides access to additional markets, customers and packaging expertise,” said Cree CEO Gregg Lowe.

“This is a key element of Cree’s growth strategy and positions Wolfspeed to enable faster 4G networks and the revolutionary transition to 5G.”

Infineon and SAIC set up joint venture for China electric car market

SAIC Motor and Infineon Technologies are establishing a joint venture to manufacture power modules for the dynamically developing electric vehicle market in China.

SAIC Motor holds a stake of 51 percent of the JV, SIAPM (SAIC Infineon Automotive Power Modules (Shanghai) Co, Ltd., and Infineon 49 percent, respectively.

Headquartered in Shanghai; its new manufacturing facility is in Infineon’s site expansion in Wuxi. Volume production is scheduled to start in the second half of 2018.

Infineon and Elektrobit team up to improve car data security

Infineon Technologies AG and Elektrobit Automotive GmbH are teaming up long term to work closely together on the issue of cybersecurity for vehicles.

The companies are offering a hardware-software solution that is said to boost the performance of on-board communication and satisfies current and future security requirements.

It is based on the second generation of the multicore microcontroller family AURIX™ (TC3xx) from Infineon and, tailored to it, Elektrobit’s zentur HSM solution.

Infineon Technologies is supplying computing technology for the Audi A8, which is claimed to be “the world’s first series production car with autonomous driving features”.

Infineon says it supplies key components for the Audi A8 which gives the car level 3 automated driving capabilities.

Infineon joins electric charging association to support global standards

Chipmaker Infineon Technologies has joined an organisation which is developing a global network of charging stations for electric vehicles.

Infineon says an appropriate charging infrastructure is “critical” to support the rapidly growing electric vehicles market worldwide.

Infineon often boasts that it is the world’s leading semiconductor supplier for driver assistance systems and electric mobility.

The company currently claims its technology is the “key” to securing the future of all life on Earth.

Lightning fast machine sorts out the squares in 637 thousandths of a second

The Rubik’s Cube is one of the world’s most famous puzzles, and one of the best-selling products in history. 

Tens of millions – possibly hundreds of millions – of people have tried to manipulate the cubic puzzle to manoeuvre the colours so they match on all six sides. And millions have succeeded.

Infineon launches what it claims is the first-of-its-kind online engineering prototype design application

Infineon Technologies has launched the first online prototyping engine combining analog and digital simulation functionalities in an internet application.

Infineon Designer requires a web browser only, and the company says it is “a perfect match for supporting customers in selecting the right product for a defined application”.
