ABB expands large robot family with four ‘energy saving’ models, 22 variants

ABB Robotics is expanding its large robot range with four new models and 22 variants, offering more choice, increased coverage and greater performance.

The next generation models include the IRB 6710, IRB 6720, IRB 6730 and IRB 6740, suitable for payloads ranging from 150 kg to 310 kg, with a reach from 2.5 m to 3.2 m, offering customers greater choice and significant performance and energy efficiency improvements.

Marc Segura, president of ABB’s Robotics Division, says: “Sustainable production is a major priority of automotive manufacturers, with 78 percent of companies identifying it as important to their business and 77 percent identifying it as a priority for their customers. Switzerland’s IAR Group establishes new subsidiary in Germany

The IAR Group from Switzerland, which specializes in industrial automation systems, is expanding and founding a subsidiary in the greater Stuttgart area.

The main objective is to sell its self-developed automation modules for loading and unloading processes as well as automated special machines and robot cells on the German market. To this end, a sales and service team is to be established.

Sébastien Perroud, chairman and CEO of the Zofingen-based IAR Group, says: “I am very pleased about the newly founded subsidiary in the greater Stuttgart area – a milestone in the history of the IAR Group. Cogniteam builds AI capabilities for robots on Nvidia platform

Cogniteam has used the Jetson AGX Orin to enable AI on robots using the Nimbus Operating System.

Dr Yehuda Elmaliah, co-founder and CEO of Cogniteam, says: “The Nvidia AGX Orin is a huge leap for manufacturers and developers who want to see greater AI capabilities on their edge robots.”

Innodisk releases industrial-grade solid-state disks with ‘world’s highest capacity’

Innodisk, a provider of industrial flash and memory solutions, has released its industrial-grade 112-Layer 3D TLC SSDs along with “the world’s highest capacity up to 8TB”.

The 112-layer SSDs introduces a complete product line including the SATA 3TG6-P and 3TE7 series, as well as the PCIe Gen3x4 and Gen4x4 series.

Kuka releases new version of its robot simulation software

Automation specialist Kuka has released the new version of its smart simulation software, Kuka.Sim 4.0. (See video below.)

Kuka.Sim 4.0 enables details and sequences of robot applications to be “realistically simulated” even before start-up and then transferred 100 percent to the real controller.

Universal Robots upgrades its UR10e arm with 25 percent greater payload

Universal Robots is launching an enhanced UR10e with an increased payload of 12.5 kg (27.55 lbs), creating new possibilities for applications such as palletizing, machine tending, and packaging. The robot’s price remains unchanged.

Genesis Robotics to showcase latest innovations at IREX 2019

Wynright aims to double sales after opening new $26 million manufacturing facility

Wynright, a wholly-owned subsidiary of material handling giant Daifuku, says it aims to double sales after it opens its new $26 million manufacturing facility at the end of this year.

Wynright plans to expand its North American US manufacturing capabilities in the Greater Chicago area. The company will consolidate its existing factories in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, and Oak Lawn, Illinois into a new, larger facility in Hobart, Indiana, in phases, by the end of December 2019.

In line with the completion of the new factory, the existing factories in Elk Grove and Oak Lawn in Illinois will close. Daifuku Wynright has offered all employees at both sites the opportunity to continue with the company at the new facility. DHL launches last-mile drone delivery service in China

DHL Express has partnered with autonomous aerial vehicle company EHang to jointly launch a fully automated and intelligent smart drone delivery solution to tackle the last-mile delivery challenges in the urban areas of China.

The launch ceremony was held today at the EHang Command and Control Center in Guangzhou, with the attendance of senior executives from both companies.

This cutting-edge solution takes its inaugural flight for a DHL customer, making DHL the first international express company to provide such a service in China.
