Advanced Driver Assistance Systems predicted to grow to $63 billion by 2024

The global market for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) is projected to be valued $63 billion by 2024, according to a report by Accurize Market Research. 

The sector is expected to see a compound annual growth rate of 10.7 percent from 2017 to 2025.

Autonomous driving software startup Helm.ai raises $26 million in new funding

Helm.ai, creator of next-generation AI software for autonomous driving, today announced it has raised $26 million in series B funding.

This funding will help Helm.ai better serve its rapidly growing customer base, and accelerate product expansion of its highly scalable approach to autonomous driving software.

Additional funding in this round was from JM Partners, Base Capital Funding, and Freeman Group, with additional participation from Nicolas Berggruen, ACVC Partners, OneWay Ventures, Binnacle Partners, Nadia Asoyan, Vlad Tenev, Mark Leslie, Jeff Rothschild, and Neil King. Cepton secures ‘industry’s largest” ADAS lidar deal with global automotive manufacturer

Lidar solutions provider Cepton Technologies has secured an ADAS lidar series production award at a leading, Detroit-based global automotive manufacturer.

Cepton says the contract is “the industry’s largest award to date”.

Arrival partners with Ambarella to develop advanced driver assistance systems

Arrival, a develop of electric vehicles, has selected the Ambarella CV2FS CVflow AI vision processor for the environmental perception module available for all types of Arrival vehicles.

The module will be used to enable autonomous driving (AD) and ADAS features in the Arrival Bus and Van.

Arrival believes it will accelerate the mass adoption of EVs globally by producing affordable commercial vehicles across the whole transportation ecosystem, and working closely with cities and governments to transform mobility. Brodmann17 has become the first company to add its technology to Peachtree Corners’ Curiosity Lab’s Level 3 autonomous test vehicle.

Peachtree Corners says it is one of America’s first smart city environments powered by real-world connected infrastructure and 5G.

Infineon and Reality AI teach cars how to ‘hear’

Today’s advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are based on cameras, radar or lidar. As a result, their target objects need to be within the line of sight to be recognized by the system.

This, however, turns into a weakness when it comes to emergency vehicles – they can be heard much earlier than they can be seen and thus are invisible to ADAS for a longer time.

Unity partners with Mando to develop advanced driver assistance system

Unity, one of the best-known platforms for creating games, is partnering up with South Korean self-driving technology company Mando to develop front camera simulation technology for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Unity has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Mando to develop an ADAS front camera simulator. This MoU will combine Mando’s expertise in technology with Unity for a joint effort to develop an ADAS front camera simulator.

VW partners with Microsoft to build computing platform for autonomous vehicles

Volkswagen says it is further strengthening its capabilities in the development of autonomous or highly automated driving (AD) solutions with a new partnership with Microsoft.

The Group’s software company Car.Software Organisation will collaborate with Microsoft to build a cloud-based Automated Driving Platform (ADP) on Microsoft Azure and leverage its compute and data capabilities to deliver automated driving experiences even faster at global scale.

With ADP running on Azure, Car.Software Organisation will increase the efficiency of the development of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and AD functions for passenger cars across Volkswagen Group brands. AImotive and Sony partner to develop ADAS capability for Vision-S prototype

AImotive, the most highly-funded automated driving technology company in Europe, is working with Sony to develop its automated driving software stack with Sony’s Vision-S Prototype (main picture and below).

According to Sony, the Vision-S – announced at CES 2020 – is conceived to re-imagine mobility as we know it, by integrating the advanced ADAS and automated driving systems with the latest electric vehicle technology and an innovative entertainment system.
