Velo3D raises $28 million to expand additive manufacturing business

Velo3D has raised $28 million in a Series D funding round, bringing total funding to $138 million.

New investors Piva and TNSC joined the round, along with existing investors Bessemer Investment Partners, Playground, and Khosla Ventures.

MakerBot adds specialty materials for functional 3D printing prototypes

MakerBot, a 3D printing company and subsidiary of Stratasys, has expanded the materials portfolio for its “Method” 3D printer with two new materials – PC-ABS and PC-ABS FR.

The addition of these new materials brings the number of MakerBot materials for Method to 10, underscoring the company’s efforts to deliver a wider range of industrial-grade solutions to open more additive manufacturing applications for engineers.

Kuka gains three new orders for assembly line conversions

Kuka Systems has won three new orders for assembly line conversions.

The automation specialist says that converting existing assembly lines is “time-critical and requires significant experience in systems engineering”.

GM and Honda to jointly develop new electric vehicles

General Motors and Honda have agreed to jointly develop next-generation Honda electric vehicles powered by GM’s Ultium Batteries.

The move builds on GM’s already established advanced technology relationship with Honda.

Audi to ‘gradually restart production’ in Europe

Audi will gradually initiate the restart of production at its plants in Europe during the coming weeks.

The company had announced the temporary suspension of production at its European sites in mid-March.

Mirka launches project to develop robotic surface finish solution for industrial customers

Surface finishing technology company Mirka has launched what it says is the world’s first patent pending Automated Industrial Programme to develop robotic orbital sanding systems.

The initiative is being launched globally by Mirka in April 2020, and is spearheaded by the Mirka Airos.

The aim is to build an “innovative, electric Automated Industrial Random Orbital Sander”, which integrates with manufacturers’ robotic systems to carry out intensive, high work load sanding, where precision and minimal maintenance is critical. ifm electronic launches new RFID system ‘ideally suited to production line’

ifm electronic has launched a new RFID system which the company says has long user-adjustable operating range, robust construction and choice of fieldbus interfaces.

ifm adds that the HF RFID systems in the new DTE60x range “are ideally suited to production line applications”.

3D printing moving into mainstream manufacturing, says GlobalData

3D printing technology is slowly cementing its role as a key part of the manufacturing mix, continuing its journey towards industry 4.0.

It has already lowered the barriers to entry for manufacturing, allowing enterprises across many industries to respond to customer demands while offering greater customization of products and speed to market, says GlobalData, a data analytics company.
