Nuro awarded ‘first ever’ autonomous vehicle permit in California

Nuro claims it has become “the first company” to receive a permit to deploy autonomous vehicles on public streets from the California Department of Motor Vehicles.

This permit will allow its vehicles to operate commercially on California roads in two counties near Nuro’s headquarters in the Bay Area.

Nuro says it will soon announce its first deployment in California with an established partner. The service will start with its fleet of Prius vehicles in fully autonomous mode, followed by its custom-designed electric R2 vehicles. E-mobility manufacturer orders test benches for e-drives from teamtechnik valued at ‘several million euros’

An original equipment manufacturer in the e-mobility sector has ordered test benches for electric drives from teamtechnik valued at “several million euros”.

For teamtechnik, the turn of the year was a success. The year 2020 ended with the announcement that machine and system builder Dürr is coming aboard at teamtechnik with a majority shareholding of 75 percent.

Seegrid doubles revenues and sees ‘record adoption’ of its autonomous mobile robots

Seegrid, a provider of autonomous mobile robots for material handling, says it doubled revenue year-over-year for the second year in a row.

Seegrid says its growth reflects increased demand from manufacturing, e-commerce, and logistics companies for automation solutions to address rising pressures on the supply chain, which were exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic and ever-evolving consumer demands.

AutoX puts fully driverless RoboTaxis on the roads in China

AutoX has rolled out fully driverless RoboTaxis on the roads of downtown Shenzhen, marking the first time a completely autonomous fleet without accompanying safety drivers or remote operators is introduced in China.

The leading autonomous driving technology company has been conducting driverless stress tests in the Tier 1 city – which has the highest population density in China – for the past half a year.

‘Autonomous vehicles’ tops Lux Research list of emerging technologies

The category of “Autonomous vehicles” tops a new list of 12 emerging technologies for 2021 produced by Lux Research.

The research company says that, after a tumultuous 2020, organizations need to “re-examine their outlook on what emerging tech innovations will be critical for their future opportunities”.

Lux Research, a provider of tech-enabled research and advisory services, released its annual report on the top tech innovations that will have the greatest impact over the next 10 years, based on proprietary data science tools and expert insight. ‘Seismic shift’ happening in manufacturing sector, says new report

There is a seismic shift happening in the manufacturing industry as it advances towards Industry 4.0, according to a new report by Ericsson.

The telecommunications technology company recently launched its Connected Manufacturing report, which explores challenges the industry is up against and how smart solutions will be “key in helping manufacturers gearing up for Industry 4.0”.

RE2 Robotics achieves 50 percent hiring growth despite pandemic

RE2 Robotics, or “Resquared Robotics”, a developer of intelligent mobile manipulation systems, announced today that the Company has already reached its 2020 hiring goal of increasing its staff by 50 percent.

In particular, 83 percent of the new hires were engineers from a variety of disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and software engineering.

In addition, the Company has added to its operations team with the hiring of a head of talent, director of IT, and accountant, and has augmented its production team with the addition of a CNC machinist and lab assistant. Walmart deal helps Shopify shares skyrocket more than 300 percent

Shopify shares have skyrocketed to all-time highs over the past few weeks, largely as a result of its new partnership with Walmart. Shopify is the first online commerce platform partner that Walmart has signed such a deal with. 

The agreement, agreed in June, allows Shopify – which bought warehouse robot maker 6 River Systems last year for $450 million – to put 1,200 of its merchants into Walmart’s marketplace

Walmart is America’s largest retail chain, with annual revenues of more than $500 billion. The vast majority of its sales are in brick-and-mortar stores, but the company has recently been making a big push into the digital space.
