Getting a grip on efficiency: Choosing the ideal manipulator

November 28, 2025 by David Edwards

By Ulrich Schäfer, project engineer, ZASCHE handling

Industrial manipulators are essential tools for lifting, moving, and positioning heavy or complex components.

They improve safety, reduce operator strain, and support higher productivity across companies of all sizes – from small manufacturers to major players in sectors such as automotive, printing, and heavy industry. But with several different designs available, how do you know which manipulator is the right fit for your task?

Here we review the key considerations for specifying a manipulator, with a side-by-side comparison of articulated and parallelogram systems – the two designs most commonly found in industry today. [Read more…] about Getting a grip on efficiency: Choosing the ideal manipulator

New MIT-Mecalux study finds ‘AI now embedded in 60 percent of warehouses’

November 28, 2025 by David Edwards

Research from Mecalux and the MIT Intelligent Logistics Systems Lab, based on a survey of 2,000+ logistics leaders, shows rapid automation and AI adoption, 2-3 year payback periods and rising demand for high-skill warehouse roles.

As retailers brace for the annual surge of Black Friday demand, a new study from Mecalux and the MIT Intelligent Logistics Systems (ILS) Lab at MIT’s Center for Transportation and Logistics reveals that the warehouses powering today’s global supply chains have entered a new era of intelligence.

The research, drawing on responses from over 2,000 supply chain and warehousing professionals across 21 countries, shows that artificial intelligence and machine learning are no longer experimental tools but core drivers of productivity, accuracy and workforce evolution. Why Tool Geometry Still Matters in an Era of Smart CNC and Industrial Robots

November 28, 2025 by David Edwards

Robots load parts. CNC controls adapt feeds and speeds on the fly. Dashboards stream spindle data in real time. It’s tempting to think the hard work is done by software now, and tooling is just a line item on the purchase order.

But no matter how much intelligence you bolt onto a cell, the cut still happens at a tiny piece of carbide meeting metal. That’s where tool geometry quietly decides whether your smart process actually delivers. [Read more…] about Why Tool Geometry Still Matters in an Era of Smart CNC and Industrial Robots

Stop guessing your proxy quality: A measurement playbook for reliable scraping

November 28, 2025 by David Edwards

Web scraping breaks first at the network edge. Before parsers, selectors, or pipelines get a chance, the connection either completes or it doesn’t.

That edge has changed: almost half of web traffic is automated, a substantial share is actively hostile to bots, and most sites speak modern HTTPS with tight timeouts and fingerprint checks.

If you do not measure proxies like you measure production services, you will spend your budget shipping retries and shards of HTML. [Read more…] about Stop guessing your proxy quality: A measurement playbook for reliable scraping

Toyota expands US manufacturing with up to $10 billion investment and unveils new $912 million hybrid-production boost

November 27, 2025 by David Edwards

Toyota is significantly expanding its manufacturing footprint in the United States, announcing up to $10 billion in additional investment over the next five years, alongside a newly disclosed $912 million allocation to boost hybrid-vehicle production across five US plants.

The second investment is part of – and included within – the larger package announced earlier in November.

Toyota Motor Corporation said the up to $10 billion commitment will “bring the company’s total US investment to nearly $60 billion since beginning operations in the US nearly 70 years ago”. Volvo selects Sweden for its $74 million excavator assembly plant

November 27, 2025 by David Edwards

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is expanding its European industrial footprint with a new crawler excavator assembly factory in Eskilstuna, Sweden, to be serving the European markets.

The 700 million SEK ($74 million) investment in Sweden is part of Volvo CE’s ambitions to strengthen its position in the important excavator segment.

The 30,000 square meter Eskilstuna facility aims to meet the growing European customer demand by increasing capacity and flexibility, and will enable reduced reliance on long-distance logistics, shorter delivery times, enhancing supply chain resilience and reducing carbon emissions. GM to invest $250 million in Ohio manufacturing facility

November 27, 2025 by David Edwards

General Motors says it is “reinforcing its leadership in American manufacturing” with a new $250 million commitment in its Parma Metal Center in Ohio.

This will enable production of sheet metal stampings and assemblies to support the multi-billion-dollar product allocations announced at Orion Assembly, Michigan, Spring Hill Manufacturing, Tennessee, and Fairfax Assembly, Kansas, earlier this year.

With this new commitment, GM’s total manufacturing investments for 2025 now approach $5.5 billion, underscoring the company’s aggressive commitment to domestic manufacturing and meeting customer demand across its ICE and EV portfolio.
