Einride and UAE to introduce Middle East’s largest autonomous and electric fleet

August 6, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Einride, a freight mobility company that provides digital, electric and autonomous technology, is launching a collaboration with the UAE Government to “fast track the region to sustainable shipping”.

The signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will look to deploy Einride’s ecosystem, including electric and autonomous vehicles, charging infrastructure and transforming technology that unlocks digital, electric and autonomous solutions at scale throughout the Falcon Rise grid.

Robert Falck, CEO and founder of Einride, says: “This collaboration gets to the core of what Einride provides – the transformation to effective and sustainable shipping that is fully electric.

“By partnering on this deal, we’ll be able to showcase how entire regions are able to make the switch in an intelligent and cost-effective way.”

The Falcon Rise grid will deploy Einride’s full freight mobility offering, providing over a stretch of 550 km across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, encompassing 2,000 electric trucks, 200 autonomous trucks and eight charging stations with over 500 charging points.

Einride’s freight ecosystem is based on a grid system planned, optimized and monitored using the Einride Saga platform. The grid simplifies the management of road freight, removes industry inefficiencies, provides uninterrupted operations and significantly reduces emissions within the region.

Sharif Alolama, MOEI’s Undersecretary for Energy and petroleum affairs, says: “The establishment of the UAE Falcon Rise grid represents a significant milestone in our journey toward sustainable and intelligent transportation.

“Through this collaboration with Einride, we aim to leverage the latest technological advancements to reduce emissions and enhance the efficiency of freight operations across the region.”

Robert Ziegler, general manager, EMEA of Einride, says: “We look forward to collaborating with the UAE Government to build a more sustainable and resilient transportation system, with this partnership enabling this change to be effectively deployed at scale.

“Einride’s offering will unlock new opportunities within the region by introducing a new way of shipping that is electric, autonomous, and digital.”

This marks Einride’s first announced project in the region, following multiple market expansions over the course of the past 12 months including Germany, the UK and Benelux.

The Falcon Rise project will look to be developed over the course of five years. Einride partners have seen an up to 95 percent decrease in CO2 emissions while remaining cost competitive.
