Pony.ai and SANY to mass produce autonomous trucks

July 28, 2022 by Mai Tao

Pony.ai, an autonomous driving technology company, has formed a strategic joint venture with SANY Heavy Truck, a subsidiary of SANY Heavy Industry, a Chinese heavy equipment manufacturer and the third largest heavy equipment manufacturer globally.

Pony.ai and SANY say they will collaborate to create a “world-leading autonomous truck brand”.

The two companies say they will “deeply integrate” Pony.ai’s “virtual driver” with SANY’s technical accumulation in the field of wire-controlled chassis and vehicle development to jointly develop high-end heavy trucks that are automotive-grade and have L4-class redundancies. These trucks will inaugurate the future of truck logistics transportation.

The joint venture plans to start small-scale deliveries of the robotrucks in 2022 and 2023. Mass production of the L4 truck will commence in 2024 and within a few years will reach an annual production of around 10,000 trucks. [Read more…] about Pony.ai and SANY to mass produce autonomous trucks

Electronic component manufacturer Stego expands headquarters

July 26, 2022 by David Edwards

Stego, a manufacturer of electronic components, is expanding its capacity at the group’s headquarters in Schwäbisch Hall, in the German state of Baden-Württemberg.

A doubling of warehouse volume for production is already complete. The construction of an office block is now starting. This should be completed by the end of 2023 and provide space for over 70 employees with 1,500 square metres.

The Stego Group in Schwäbisch Hall is growing. Even during the pandemic. Almost without restraint. Rising product demand has led to a strain on material supply and logistics. [Read more…] about Electronic component manufacturer Stego expands headquarters

Autonomous trucking developer Inceptio partners with chipmaker Ambarella

July 25, 2022 by David Edwards

Inceptio Technology, an autonomous driving truck technology developer, has selected two each of Ambarella’s CV2FS and CV2AQ edge AI systems on chip (SoCs) – a total of four CVflow SoCs – for its automotive-grade central computing platform.

This platform is at the core of Inceptio’s full-stack XuanYuan autonomous driving system for trucks, where Ambarella’s SoCs provide high-performance and low-power processing simultaneously for seven 8MP cameras, including AI compute, for surround camera perception and front ADAS safety features like collision avoidance.

Susan Beardslee, ABI Research’s principal analyst for supply chain management and logistics, says: “Globally, there were over 223 million registered commercial vehicles (light-duty to heavy-duty) by the end of 2021. Pony.ai to mass produce autonomous driving controller built on Nvidia Drive Orin

July 6, 2022 by David Edwards

Pony.ai, a leading global autonomous driving technology company, announced today that its Autonomous Driving Controller (ADC), powered by the Nvidia Drive Hyperion compute architecture (Drive Orin), has been sampled to customers with plans to mass produce the ADC starting in Q4 2022.

Since January 2022, Pony.ai has been conducting road tests optimizing the software to run at low latency and with real-time performance. Pony.ai’s autonomous fleets will feature the Nvidia Drive Orin system-on-chip (SoC) as the centralized compute and AI engine.

Pony.ai’s latest ADC offers single or dual Nvidia Drive Orin configurations, delivering 254 and 508 trillion operations per second (TOPS), respectively. As the world’s highest performance automotive-grade SoC, Drive Orin is designed to handle large numbers of applications and deep neural networks simultaneously, while achieving systematic safety standards, to ensure safe, highly advanced intelligent driving. Why Do Truck Drivers Need ELDs?

May 23, 2022 by David Edwards

As a truck driver in the states, there are many rules you need to keep in mind while going about your tasks. An Electronic Logging Device (ELD) incorporates most of these safety measures to ensure you stay safe and compliant on the road.

An ELD is a mandated requirement for commercial drivers in most states. An ELD is a reliable way for you to ensure smooth and safe driving without risking any violations. With this device, you can create a safer environment on the road for yourself and others.

Having an ELD in every commercial vehicle became mandatory after April 1, 2018. The law was enforced to track every driver’s Hours of Service (HoS). It helps the Department of Transportation keep an eye on the violations and prevent them. [Read more…] about Why Do Truck Drivers Need ELDs?
