TTTech Auto partners with BlackBerry to develop safety systems for highly automated vehicles

TTTech Auto and BlackBerry QNX are partnering to integrate BlackBerry’s QNX Neutrino Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) and TTTech Auto’s safe vehicle software platform MotionWise for advanced driver assistance systems and software-defined vehicles.

Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving systems impose increased functional safety and performance requirements.

To address the computing performance requirements, high performant Systems-on-a-Chip (SoCs) are required to interconnect with a reliable high-speed communication backbone.

Likewise, software functions are required to cooperate within and across all interconnected SoCs in a reliable and safe way.

QNX provides a foundational software component that runs on individual SoCs. TTTech Auto’s safe vehicle software platform MotionWise, in turn, orchestrates software functions across several SoCs – seamlessly, safely, and reliably.

The tight integration of these two technologies, which have individually been proven in production in millions of vehicles around the globe, will ensure the orchestration of workloads across the vehicle level, affording the overall well-defined system safety and performance properties.

John Wall, SVP and co-head of BlackBerry Technology Solutions, says: “BlackBerry QNX is well-established in the automotive industry and we continue to build on our strengths by partnering with industry innovators like TTTech Auto, who complement our foundational software with solutions that deliver enhanced features while demonstrating shared values in terms of balancing performance with safety.

“With QNX and TTTech Auto, carmakers can benefit from our combined expertise to streamline the orchestration between disparate hardware and software components required to bring safe, secure, and reliable automated and autonomous driving systems to market more efficiently.”

Stefan Poledna, CTO of TTTech Auto, says: “Together with BlackBerry QNX, TTTech Auto will help car manufactures to bring advanced ADAS and automated driving functions for next-generation vehicles faster to market.

“Based on a very robust and performant integration platform which is supporting advanced complex SoCs, safety and real-time requirements can be met.

“We are partnering our technology with the QNX operating system to achieve system-wide safety and performance properties for software-defined vehicles, thereby addressing such challenges as bounded communication latencies that can impact on safety and security in today’s software-defined vehicle environments.”
