How Equipment Asset Management Practices Must Evolve for Industry 4.0 to Deliver on its Promise

June 24, 2026 by Sam Francis

Industry 4.0 carries an enormous promise. Connected sensors feeding real-time data into intelligent systems, machines that predict their own failures, production lines that self-optimise in response to demand signals, supply chains that adjust without human intervention. The technology is real, the investment is substantial, and the case studies are credible.

So why are so many manufacturers still fighting the same battles they were fighting a decade ago? Why does unplanned downtime still cost Fortune 500 companies an estimated $1.4 trillion per year, according to the Siemens True Cost of Downtime 2024 report?

Why do maintenance teams with IIoT sensors on half their assets still spend most of their time reacting to failures rather than preventing them?

The answer, more often than not, has nothing to do with the sensors or the algorithms. It has to do with the asset management infrastructure underneath them. The EAM layer, the systems, data models, and practices that govern how equipment records, spare parts catalogues, work orders, and maintenance decisions are organised and acted on, was built for a different era. Europe’s most important industrial lubrication conference celebrates its 10th anniversary in Bilbao

June 5, 2026 by Sam Francis

Europe’s most important conference on industrial lubricants will celebrate its 10th anniversary at the Euskalduna Convention Centre in Bilbao.

On Wednesday and Thursday of this week, 200 professionals from Europe, Asia and America will attend this new edition of LUBMAT, a leading international biennial event specialising in lubricants, tribology and production equipment monitoring.

For two consecutive days, companies, manufacturers, technology centres and researchers will share the sector’s most recent scientific and technological innovations to address challenges such as sustainability, digitisation and industrial efficiency. The forum is co-organised by the Tekniker technology centre, the Jost Institute for Tribotechnology of the United Kingdom, Bureau Veritas and ATTEN2.

Currently rated as one of Europe’s main meeting points for the lubrication industry and R&D, LUBMAT 2026 features an extensive scientific and technical programme focused on areas such as advanced lubricants, friction and wear reduction, condition-based maintenance, online equipment monitoring, smart sensors, AI applied to industrial maintenance and the development of solutions that are safer and more sustainable. How Can AI Make Predictive Maintenance Work for Automotive Robots?

May 4, 2026 by David Edwards

The International Federation of Robotics projects 575,000 industrial robot installations globally were achieved in 2025, which would mark the highest annual total on record.

The automotive sector runs the densest robot fleet of any manufacturing industry – more robots per 10,000 employees than any other sector in Germany, Japan, the United States and South Korea.

With robots concentrations that high, automotive plants have more to gain from getting condition monitoring right – small improvements in uptime translate directly into outsized gains in productivity and cost efficiency. Predictive Maintenance Robotics: How AI and Automation Are Redefining Industrial Asset Reliability

February 26, 2026 by David Edwards

Predictive maintenance robotics is transforming how industrial organisations manage automation environments, moving beyond reactive maintenance and fixed schedules toward intelligent, data-driven maintenance strategies.

Instead of waiting for equipment failures or relying solely on manual inspections, organisations are deploying machine learning, artificial intelligence and advanced analytics to optimise maintenance scheduling and reduce costly downtime.

In many industrial facilities, robotic diagnostics are now aligned with structured systems such as velappity’s hvac preventive maintenance software to ensure predictive maintenance processes integrate with enterprise asset management frameworks across different locations. Wachendorff expands range of IO-Link encoders

September 8, 2025 by Mai Tao

Wachendorff Automation is expanding its portfolio of absolute encoders in the WDGA series with variants featuring an IO-Link interface. This makes integration into modern automation environments even easier, more efficient, and more future-proof.

The new IO-Link encoders are based on proven EnDra technology – a maintenance-free multiturn principle without gears or batteries.

They offer high resolution of up to 16 bits (singleturn) and 43 bits (multiturn) and are equipped with the fast IO-Link COM3 interface. The devices are ideal for use in packaging machines or roll-to-roll processes. [Read more…] about Wachendorff expands range of IO-Link encoders

Top 10 predictive maintenance companies: Using AI to keep robotic systems running smoothly

August 15, 2025 by Mai Tao

Unplanned downtime is the enemy of efficiency in modern manufacturing and logistics. When a robotic system fails unexpectedly, it can halt entire production lines, delay deliveries, and rack up costly repairs.

As factories and warehouses become more reliant on robots, ensuring their continuous operation is critical – and that’s where predictive maintenance comes in.

Predictive maintenance, powered by artificial intelligence, uses real-time sensor data to forecast failures before they happen. It’s a powerful evolution from traditional maintenance strategies, and it’s helping businesses across industries keep their robotic systems running smoothly.
