Recogni claims world’s fastest computing system for autonomous driving

December 23, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Recogni, a developer of AI-based perception for autonomous vehicles, has unveiled its Recogni Scorpio, which the company claims is “the world’s first 1,000 TOPS (Peta-Op) class inference solution for autonomous mobility”.

The company’s vision-inference chip enables superhuman object detection accuracy up to 300 m in real-time under various road and environment conditions, and the ability to process multiple streams of ultra-high resolution and very high frame rate cameras.

Microprocessor Report says that Recogni’s solution “performs far better than the inference engines in leading SoCs such as Nvidia’s Orin”. [Read more…] about Recogni claims world’s fastest computing system for autonomous driving

Why the Automotive Future is Electric

November 23, 2022 by Mark Allinson

With the global automotive market shifting towards electrification at an unprecedented rate, electric cars or EVs are slated to become the next generation of personal transportation.

By 2040, an estimated 40 million units of EVs are expected to hit the roads, essentially replacing the IC engine. Several manufacturers have already shifted their focus on EV platforms and the latest entry into the segment is the Mazda MX-30, the company’s first all-electric offering.

Taking the MX-30 as an example, we can see how far the EV industry has come over the years. Mixing style and practicality with its rear-hinged doors, the 2022 MX-30 is as good as a modern EV can get. [Read more…] about Why the Automotive Future is Electric

Locus granted patent for machine learning models to ‘accurately predict traffic time’ for last-mile deliveries

September 30, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Locus, a logistics software technology company (not to be confused with Locus Robotics), has been awarded a patent for “Machine Learning Models for Predicting Time in Traffic”, the second patent awarded to the company in 2022.

Predictability of last-mile deliveries is a logistical challenge that continues to affect businesses across various sectors such as e-commerce, 3PLs, and so on.

Locus’ new patent will enable enterprises to achieve better precision in their last-mile deliveries by factoring in traffic patterns, which have historically been considered too dynamic to map. Hexagon and ESAB to help manufacturers ‘optimise robotic welding processes’

July 27, 2022 by David Edwards

Hexagon’s manufacturing intelligence division has signed a partnership agreement with ESAB, a fabrication specialist, to create a “streamlined welding solution” combining Hexagon’s simulation software with ESAB’s InduSuite solutions to help fabricators perform more efficient and successful welding operations.

Hexagon’s simulation intelligence, embedded within ESAB’s software and automation portfolio, will ensure that users have the tools required to “consistently manufacture high-quality products without costly trial and error”, according to the companies.

Producing successful welds can be challenging without the benefit of many years’ shop-floor experience and, even with an extensive welding experience, can incur high costs from waste and time. [Read more…] about Hexagon and ESAB to help manufacturers ‘optimise robotic welding processes’
