DMG MORI and Jungheinrich partner to develop driverless transport technologies

DMG MORI and Jungheinrich have formed a partnership to develop driverless transport systems – and have already demonstrated a first product.

The company says the DMG MORI PH-AGV 50 (main picture) “heralds a new era of flexible automation solutions in intralogistics”.

ABB to electrify automated vehicles for new port in Singapore

Powering zero-emission, autonomous container transportation with direct current charging infrastructure

ABB has won a contract from ST Engineering Land Systems to deliver and commission integrated smart charging points for automated guided vehicles (AGV) in the new Tuas port of Singapore.

Deliveries of the vehicles, which will be deployed to transport heavy shipping containers at the port terminal, are scheduled to begin from September 2020 through to August 2022.

Airbus inaugurates ‘highly automated’ assembly line in Germany

Airbus has inaugurated its “highly automated” fuselage structure assembly line for A320 Family aircraft in Hamburg, showcasing an evolution in Airbus’ industrial production system.

With a special focus on manufacturing longer sections for the A321LR, the new facility features 20 robots, a new logistics concept, automated positioning by laser measurement as well as a digital data acquisition system.

Groupe PSA tests vehicle-to-infrastructure tech in Spanish city

Groupe PSA is testing vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2X) technology for the first time in the Spanish city of Vigo.

The company has been partnering with the Automotive Technology Centre of Galicia on the testing, and the results are intended to help the development of automated vehicle functions.

Swisslog installs robot-based warehouse for Axiom Telecom

Warehouse automation specialist Swisslog has completed a major project for Axiom Telecom for the design and implementation of a new Dubai-based automated warehouse facility with AutoStore.

Axiom is said to be the Middle East’s leading telecom distributor for handsets and accessories.

Daimler and Torc Robotics begin testing automated trucks on public roads in Virginia

Daimler Trucks and Torc Robotics are actively developing and testing automated trucks with SAE Level 4 intent technology on public roads.

The initial routes are on highways in southwest Virginia, where Torc Robotics is headquartered. All automated runs require both an engineer overseeing the system and a highly trained safety driver certified by Daimler Trucks and Torc Robotics.

Ericsson automated smart factory now operational in China

Swedish telecommunications equipment maker Ericsson says September 2019 marks “a major milestone in smart manufacturing capabilities”.

The reason for this is that the $50 million transformation of the company’s existing factory in Nanjing, China, has now reached its conclusion.

Brodmann17 launches ‘world’s first’ automated deep learning training platform for autonomous driving

Brodmann17, a Tier 2 automotive software supplier, has launched what it says is the world’s first automated deep learning training platform, specifically designed for automotive-grade ADAS/AD solutions. 

ADAS stands for advanced driver assistance systems, and AD is being used to mean autonomous driving.

Brodmann17 says its new platform seamlessly trains and deploys deep learning neural network models for ADAS/AD solutions, automating a process that cannot be done at scale manually. Swisslog to build pallet warehouse for Rapunzel

Swisslog has been contracted to expand a logistics centre for Rapunzel Naturkost, a manufacturer and supplier of organic food in Germany.

The expansion will feature Swisslog’s automated pallet technology in the form of five Vectura pallet stacker cranes and ProMove conveyor for the high-bay warehouse.
