Saildrone fleet surpasses 1 million nautical miles and 32,000 days at sea

October 18, 2023 by David Edwards

Saildrone says it has reached “another major milestone”. Its fleet of uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs) has surpassed an incredible cumulative distance of 1,000,000 nautical miles during more than 32,000 days at sea, deployed on missions around the globe.

Equivalent to circumnavigating the Earth 48 times and almost 89 years at sea for a single vehicle, this achievement demonstrates the scale of Saildrone’s operations and the tireless efforts of its team to push the boundaries and capabilities of uncrewed systems.

The record was achieved exactly 10 years after the company’s first major milestone, when the very first Saildrone USV sailed from San Francisco to Hawaii in October 2013. The 2,200-nautical mile journey took just 34 days. [Read more…] about Saildrone fleet surpasses 1 million nautical miles and 32,000 days at sea

How to use an online Gerber file editor to add or remove traces and vias

October 18, 2023 by David Edwards

Gerber files are the standard format for PCB manufacturing. They contain all of the information needed to create a PCB, including the layout of the traces, vias, and pads.

Online Gerber file editors allow you to view and edit Gerber files without having to install any software on your computer.

This can be a convenient option if you need to make minor changes to a PCB layout or if you don’t have access to a computer with PCB design software installed. [Read more…] about How to use an online Gerber file editor to add or remove traces and vias

Piab releases new lightweight bag gripper

October 12, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Piab has released a new lightweight bag gripper which, the company says, “strengthens its grip on the palletizing solutions market”.

Piab says the new gripper, the LBG-50, “easily lifts sacks and bags with weights of up to 50 kg”. As it is a pre-engineered tool, “valuable development time can be saved”.

An unavoidable challenge when defining a new bag gripping system in a palletizing line is to get the exact measurements to align with the conveyor rollers for a smooth lifting and releasing process. This demands time-consuming analysis and design and, later on, even more time for adaptation and adjustments. [Read more…] about Piab releases new lightweight bag gripper
