Leju Robot’s humanoid makes history as torchbearer at China’s 15th National Games

November 3, 2025 by Sam Francis

In a striking fusion of sport and technology, a humanoid robot named “Kuavo” developed by Leju Robot made a historic debut as a special torchbearer during the torch relay for China’s 15th National Games on Sunday, symbolizing a significant leap for the country’s embodied intelligence industry.

The black-and-white humanoid, designated the ceremonial “Zero Torchbearer”, completed a roughly 100-meter stretch during the relay in Shenzhen.

Billed as the world’s first humanoid robot torchbearer equipped with 5G-Advanced (5G-A) technology, Kuavo gripped a 1.6-kilogram torch and executed a handover between the second and third legs of the relay. Its running posture was described as lifelike, steady, and natural. [Read more…] about Leju Robot’s humanoid makes history as torchbearer at China’s 15th National Games

Video: Figure 03 shows what humanoid robots can really do

October 28, 2025 by Sam Francis

Figure AI has released a new video (see below) showcasing its third-generation humanoid robot, the Figure 03, performing a range of everyday tasks that demonstrate just how far the company has come in bridging the gap between research and reality.

In the six-minute video, the robot folds clothes, loads and operates a washing machine, clears dishes from a coffee table, and rinses them before loading a dishwasher.

It’s also shown operating a reception desk, carrying boxes, and even tossing a ball for a dog to chase – a subtle but striking moment that captures how naturally the machine moves within familiar environments. [Read more…] about Video: Figure 03 shows what humanoid robots can really do

Awkward question: What will be the ‘killer app’ for humanoid robots?

October 22, 2025 by Sam Francis

Tesla’s latest humanoid demonstration – a kung fu routine performed by its Optimus robot for actor Jared Leto – was clearly designed to impress.

But, as dramatic and as thought-provoking as it was, the spectacle raised an awkward question: what will be the “killer app” for humanoid robots?

“Killer app” is a phrase to mean the defining use case that makes a technology indispensable. In every major technology shift, there’s been a defining use case – a killer app – that turned novelty into necessity. For early personal computers, it was spreadsheets – programs like VisiCalc and later Excel that justified owning a machine running DOS. Walmart reportedly selling Unitree humanoid robots on its website: Retail reality or PR stunt?

October 10, 2025 by Mai Tao

A photograph (main image) has been circulating online this week showing a Walmart product listing for the Unitree G1 humanoid robot, priced at $21,600.

TechNode first reported the story in English, after having apparently discovered it on IThome. Technode noted that Walmart’s website briefly carried a page offering the robot for sale with free shipping and a six-unit limit per customer.

But we checked that Walmart page and the listing can no longer be found. Walmart’s website now returns the message “We couldn’t find this page” when the supposed link is accessed.

However, if you look at the URL for the page, it does mention the “Unitree G1 Basic” (the official company image which we have displayed for you below). This lends credibility to the story – what else could have been on that Walmart page and be described as a “Unitree G1 Basic”?
