Delta acquires industrial automation software company Trihedral

Delta Electronics is to acquire 100 percent of the shares of Trihedral Engineering, a Canadian SCADA and IIoT software company, for more than $33 million.

The acquisition will unite Delta’s hardware and Trihedral’s software in the rapidly growing field of automation, AI, and data analytics.

Mitsubishi Electric develops ‘co-operative AI’ for human-machine work

Mitsubishi Electric says it has developed a cooperative artificial intelligence technology that it says “enhances work collaboration between humans and machines”.

The system uses something Mitsubishi calls “inverse reinforcement learning”, or IRL, to learn and imitate the actions of skilled workers.

MIPI Alliance completes development of new industry standard A-PHY v1.0

The MIPI Alliance, an international organization that develops interface specifications for mobile and mobile-influenced industries, has completed the development of MIPI A-PHY v1.0, a long-reach serializer-deserializer (SerDes) physical layer interface for automotive applications.

The specification is undergoing member review, with official adoption expected within the next 90 days.

A-PHY will provide a physical layer for data transfers spanning an entire vehicle. As the first standard of its kind, it will help the automotive industry accelerate the availability of advanced driver assistance systems, autonomous driving systems and other surround-sensor applications, including cameras and in-vehicle infotainment displays. Aisin and QC Ware to jointly develop quantum computing capabilities

Aisin Seiki and QC Ware have agreed a research collaboration to explore the impact of quantum optimization and quantum machine learning algorithms on automotive applications.

The collaboration will utilize commercially available quantum computers from D-Wave Systems and Rigetti Computing.

Aisin is a global supplier of components and systems for the automotive industry and one of the world’s largest transmission manufacturers. Its customers represent a wide range of automotive manufacturing giants, including Toyota, Volkswagen, PSA, Volvo, and the BMW. Mitsubishi and NTT take 30 per cent stake in HERE Technologies

HERE Technologies says Mitsubishi Corporation and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation have completed their joint acquisition of a 30 per cent ownership stake in the company, after receiving regulatory approvals.

HERE welcomes Mitsubishi and NTT as strategic investors. The two companies have co-invested in HERE via their recently established, jointly owned holding company COCO Tech Holding in the Netherlands.

Hexagon NovAtel unveils ROS-based autonomous driving platform

NovAtel, part of Hexagon, has released of its first purpose-built driver, powered by Robot Operating System (ROS), to support its OEM7 family of GNSS receivers.

The driver, developed by NovAtel engineers, provides an optimized interface enabling users to accelerate autonomous development projects by quickly incorporating NovAtel OEM7 receivers into custom applications.

FLIR releases European thermal imaging dataset for automotive driver assistance development

FLIR Systems has made available its first European thermal imaging regional dataset and the third in a series of thermal imaging datasets for machine vision testing.

The company says the dataset is designed to help researchers, developers and auto manufacturers enhance and accelerate work on safety, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), automatic emergency braking (AEB) and autonomous vehicle systems.

IPsoft and GlobalDWS launch service robot powered by Amelia

IPsoft, a developer of virtual robot for business, and GlobalDWS, a systems integrator and technology solutions provider, have partnered to enable Amelia, IPsoft’s conversational artificial intelligence solution, on GlobalDWS’ service robot platform. (See video below.)

The result of this agreement is a new disinfection service robot that combines GlobalDWS’ autonomous, voice-enabled robot platform with an Amelia-driven Covid-19 Assistant.

The robot is equipped with a high-pressure atomizer containing disinfectant liquid and UV-C lights to effectively eliminate 99.9 percent of harmful bacteria and viruses from a target area – for example, floors, desks, doors – while providing Covid-19 risk assessments and information through an interactive assistant. Nvidia offers glimpse into Silicon Valley simulator in the cloud used for autonomous car development

As much of the world continues to conduct business from home, Nvidia’s autonomous test vehicles are hard at work in the cloud. (See video below.)

During the GTC 2020 keynote, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang demonstrated how Nvidia Drive technology is being developed and tested in simulation.

While physical testing is temporarily paused, the cloud-based Nvidia Drive Constellation platform makes it possible to dispatch virtual vehicles in virtual environments to continue making great progress in self-driving technology.
