SICK launches sensor-based people-counting system

October 1, 2020 by David Edwards

In reaction to new developments to slow the spread of the Covid-19 virus, SICK has launched its new PeopleCounter (PeCo) SensorApp. Using 3D LiDAR sensors, the system enables facility managers to maintain recommended occupancy levels in public spaces and in manufacturing settings.

Unlike the use of camera technology, the PeCo LiDAR sensor solution does not process personal information. This ensures companies can maintain any health and safety recommendations, but also respect private individuals’ data privacy concerns.

Operators of institutions of public life as well as those that deal in tourism, cruise ships, restaurants, retail, and various other industries can profit from a simple solution that makes it easy to safely maximize utilization of space and still maintain the required occupancy levels. Pratt Miller installs autonomous disinfecting robot at Detroit Airport

September 23, 2020 by David Edwards

In the early months of 2020, the world became victim to the rapidly spreading Covid-19 virus, causing a pandemic of epic proportions, as well as unprecedented shutdowns and public health mandates.

One industry that was hard hit was air travel as it slowed to nearly a standstill as airlines and airport facilities scrambled to build proper protocols for safe travel.

The adverse health situation provided opportunities for manufacturers and engineering firms to step up and create solutions to combat the disruptive virus pandemic. [Read more…] about Pratt Miller installs autonomous disinfecting robot at Detroit Airport

Canon launches new semiconductor lithography system

July 13, 2020 by David Edwards

Canon has launched the FPA-8000iW, which it describes as the first Canon semiconductor lithography system to support manufacturing using large panels that are common in back-end processing.

Integrating a proprietary projection optical system, the FPA-8000iW i-line stepper offers a wide exposure field and fine 1 µm† pattern resolution.

The FPA-8000iW was designed to meet the needs of manufacturers aiming for high production efficiency through the use of 515 x 510 mm organic panel substrates for Panel Level Packaging (PLP) applications. [Read more…] about Canon launches new semiconductor lithography system

The Future of Robotics in Large-Scale Clearing Operations

July 1, 2020 by David Edwards

Remote-controlled garbage bins used to glide through America’s most beloved theme parks, Disneyland and Walt Disney World, encourage visitors to put trash inside of them, but the widespread usage of robotics in larger-scale cleaning operations, such as land clearance, is still on the horizon.

Large machinery, such as mulchers, backhoes, and bulldozers, is generally utilized to clear spaces for new developments, whether they are industrial, commercial, or residential.

The technology used in these large machines is evolving rapidly, so these big machines do provide impressive performance. However, when it comes to efficient, eco-conscious cleaning and clearing in the future, robotics will surely play a bigger role.
