Understanding the Impact of Driving Style on Tyre Longevity

June 14, 2021 by Mark Allinson

Every motorist is aware that tyres will gradually wear down after use, but do you know how long the average tyre lasts and when you should be looking to replace for improved safety and performance?

Under normal driving conditions, front tyres should last around 20,000 miles while rear tyres can last around 40,000. [Read more…] about Understanding the Impact of Driving Style on Tyre Longevity

Pandemic lockdowns boost consumer robotics market to $10 billion in 2020 revenues

February 16, 2021 by David Edwards

Lockdowns around the world caused by the coronavirus pandemic have provided a boost to the consumer robotics market, according to ABI Research.

The consumer robotic market pushed through the pandemic’s disruption to deliver continued growth in 2020 as consumers spent more time at home and invested in robotic offerings that made life simpler.

Global tech market advisory firm ABI Research finds the consumer robotics market generated $10.4 billion in revenues in 2020, up $448 million, or 4.3 percent, on pre-pandemic expectations. [Read more…] about Pandemic lockdowns boost consumer robotics market to $10 billion in 2020 revenues

Global Industrial Impact of Covid-19

October 28, 2020 by Polly

Covid-19 is not just a global pandemic and public health crisis. Industries around the world are adjusting to a new normal, but normal is no longer an option.

Strict social distancing rules have left many manufacturing businesses with fewer staff and, in some countries, these industries have had to close their doors to try and flatten the curve of infections.

As many manufacturing plant managers know, switching production on and off is not an easy or affordable task. Below we have highlighted just a few of the ways Covid-19 has impacted global industrial manufacturing. [Read more…] about Global Industrial Impact of Covid-19

Manufacturing industry ‘optimistic’ about post-pandemic recovery

July 9, 2020 by David Edwards

More than 60 percent of professionals in the UK manufacturing industry expect the sector to recover from the coronavirus pandemic and return to business as usual by mid-2021, according to a new survey by SteelScout.

However, they highlighted issues in the wider supply chain which might impact the recovery, with almost 30 percent unable to access the materials they need and 36 percent adding that it is taking longer just to receive a “winning quote”.

One key driver behind the confidence in recovery is that 62 percent of respondents reported having orders waiting to be fulfilled once lockdown rules have eased. [Read more…] about Manufacturing industry ‘optimistic’ about post-pandemic recovery

6 Ways Autonomous Vehicles Will Impact Life As We Know It

June 22, 2020 by Polly

In 2015, Google, under Alphabet Inc, produced the first autonomous (self-driving) car, and today we have more than 19 autonomous parts manufacturers in the world. In the US, automated vehicles have already started roaming the streets and integrated with self-driven cars.

Based on that, researchers have moved from wondering if these cars should exist to observe how they potentially impact cities and their residents if all vehicles become autonomous. Additionally, it’s been estimated that by 2035, 10 percent of road vehicles will be autonomous, and by 2050, that number will increase significantly to over 50 percent. This will, no doubt, impact life as we know it.

In this article, we will further examine the ways autonomous vehicles will impact our lives, from little things all the way to the big ones. [Read more…] about 6 Ways Autonomous Vehicles Will Impact Life As We Know It

Einride launches ‘intelligent freight mobility platform’ in anticipation of autonomous logistics

June 3, 2020 by David Edwards

Einride is launching its freight mobility platform and says it’s designed for businesses that want to make their shipments sustainable.

The Swedish technology autonomous and electric truck developer has been beta testing with selected customers since the start of the year.

The platform provides live insights on emissions, energy usage, location data, and more, and generates recommendations on how exactly to electrify freight with the most impact for your business. Kingetics makes ‘big innovations’ in footwear-exoskeleton-robotic ambulation science

May 7, 2020 by David Edwards

By Dakota Grossman, writer, and Dr Steven King, managing member, Kingetics

Kingetics, a small veteran owned startup company has developed and tested new technology that has shown significant improvements in protecting our soldiers as well as improving the gait of mechanical walking systems.

Load carriage and high impact forces on the lower limbs are often cited as leading causes of musculoskeletal injuries. Injury rates during military training range from 1 per cent to 16 per cent, and up to 30 per cent in elite  infantry  units.

Data from Podiatry Arena shows that there are about 32,000 broken bones per year during military combat, costing the US Department of Defense an estimated $240,000,000 in medical expenses.
