Understanding the Impact of Driving Style on Tyre Longevity

June 14, 2021 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

Every motorist is aware that tyres will gradually wear down after use, but do you know how long the average tyre lasts and when you should be looking to replace for improved safety and performance?

Under normal driving conditions, front tyres should last around 20,000 miles while rear tyres can last around 40,000. [Read more…] about Understanding the Impact of Driving Style on Tyre Longevity

‘Snow-how’: Finns develop autonomous snow removal vehicles

May 17, 2019 by Anna

Robotic vacuum cleaners and lawnmowers are already reality, but can the same idea be applied to a 7-ton machine clearing snow from an airstrip?

To show it can, Valtra and Nokian Tyres partnered up with three other Finnish companies in March 2019 for a joint proof-of-concept project at the European Union’s northernmost airport.

Two Valtra T254 Versu equipped with Nokian Hakkapeliitta TRI tyres and each pulling a 4.5 m wide sweeper blower autonomously cleared the runway at Ivalo airport in Finnish Lapland.

Festo says its VTEM automation platform speeds up tyre production

April 2, 2019 by Anna

With a global production volume of 1.8 billion car tyres per year, the focus is very much on efficiency and productivity.

This is where the Festo Motion Terminal VTEM comes in: it digitises pneumatics, thereby speeding up processes and reducing costs, for example when transferring the rubber layer to the tyre building machine.

Before the green tyre is produced in the tyre building machine, the incoming rubber plies are imprinted with different patterns so as to prepare the tyre material perfectly for the tyre-building machine.
