Interview: Ambi Robotics founder sees ‘huge opportunities’ in new markets

December 28, 2024 by David Edwards

The founding of Ambi Robotics is somewhat obscured by the mist of history, but it started with some abandoned robots in a basement and the co-founders meeting at University of California Berkeley in 2018.

Within about a year, the five founders made a breakthrough in simulation-to-reality transfer learning systems for robotics, calling it Sim2Real AI, which, in turn, led to the establishment of Ambidextrous Laboratories Inc, and a year later to the commercialization of the technology in the form of the AmbiSort parcel sorting system.

The lightning quick pace of development led to huge interest from investors, who poured in $21 million into the startup by 2021, and another $32 million the following year. [Read more…] about Interview: Ambi Robotics founder sees ‘huge opportunities’ in new markets

Locus granted patent for machine learning models to ‘accurately predict traffic time’ for last-mile deliveries

September 30, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Locus, a logistics software technology company (not to be confused with Locus Robotics), has been awarded a patent for “Machine Learning Models for Predicting Time in Traffic”, the second patent awarded to the company in 2022.

Predictability of last-mile deliveries is a logistical challenge that continues to affect businesses across various sectors such as e-commerce, 3PLs, and so on.

Locus’ new patent will enable enterprises to achieve better precision in their last-mile deliveries by factoring in traffic patterns, which have historically been considered too dynamic to map. Intralogistics and warehouses are facing huge demand pressures and are turning to automation.

For most operators, the most feasible approach is to introduce AMRs that work alongside humans in dynamic environments.

This type of implementation presents challenges that are different from the ones faced by previous generations of AGVs and automation equipment. [Read more…] about Webinar: What is required of AMRs in order to meet current warehouse challenges?
