Abu Dhabi starts work on building region’s first-ever quantum computer

August 23, 2021 by David Edwards

Abu Dhabi’s Technology Innovation Institute, a pioneering global research and development centre that focuses on applied research, today unboxed the cryostat – the initial frame of its quantum computer that is being assembled in the UAE capital.

TII’s Quantum Research Centre (QRC) is spearheading the landmark advanced technology project that aims to give the world a quantum advantage through developing a supercomputer with exponential computational capabilities.

Two helium dilution refrigerators arrived from Finland earlier this week in massive wooden crates, an essential component that uses helium isotopes to cool the quantum chips or the brain of the computer and maintain the quantum information. AI in the Beauty Industry: How Computer Vision Future Trends Empower the Beauty and Cosmetic Industry

April 29, 2021 by Mark Allinson

The pandemic has pushed beauty brands to finally make friends with AI. The beauty industry will never be the same with the emerging computer vision future trends put to the central stage by the quarantine.

Before the pandemic broke out, whenever we needed a new lipstick for a night out, we just stopped by at the favorite store a few blocks from the office and put it on.

Now, things got a little bit more complicated. The only way you can try makeup on is to do it in the digital environment with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). [Read more…] about AI in the Beauty Industry: How Computer Vision Future Trends Empower the Beauty and Cosmetic Industry

7 Useful Apps to Measure Your Mac’s Performance

April 16, 2021 by Polly

Apple Macs are one of the computers that face the most abuse in terms of being used for heavy workloads in an extended period of time.

Although these computers are solid and work well under intense pressures, it is worthwhile to know how much is too much. Assessing the performance capabilities of your Mac and its current state is paramount to optimizing the way you use the machine for it to perform at its peak. Giving airplanes new life with new cockpits

February 26, 2021 by Sam Francis

Technology moves at a blistering pace, and what was modern and cool yesterday is outdated today.

That’s where UPS Airlines was with its Airbus A300 freighter aircraft fleet several years ago. The 52 wide-body “browntails,” with an average age of 18 years, have plenty of life left in them.

But the avionics in the cockpit needed a serious upgrade. The current flight management computers (FMC) used for navigation have just 200 kilobytes of storage. That was fine in 1983, when the A300-600 first flew, but nowhere near enough storage now. [Read more…] about Giving airplanes new life with new cockpits
