Mad scientists could replace real swans with robot swans worldwide

February 1, 2018 by Sam Francis

nus swan

The global swan population could become extinct if mad scientists are given free reign to replace them with robotic swans they are creating in their labs.

Though highly unlikely, it’s worth thinking about, especially as some apparently sane scientists at the National University of Singapore have already started replacing real swans with robotic ones, probably not thinking about the possible future consequences of global mass production.

And they’ve even nabbed the name – their robotic swan is called “Swan”, short for Smart Water Assessment Network. It’s also super-strong – capable of withstanding collisions with kayaks and small boats.  [Read more…] about Mad scientists could replace real swans with robot swans worldwide

Start-up launches smart connected fashion mannequin

January 31, 2018 by Anna

In 2018, French start-up Euveka is bringing to market its first version of a scalable and connected mannequin. Hailed as one of the most promising French start-ups, Euveka is developing a model that can recreate all female morphologies for use in the fashion industry.

In the coming years, Euveka wants to further develop the mannequin, adding fully robotized body parts such as legs, arms and feet, and adapt it to specific morphologies to address common challenges like pregnancy, weight gain and more.

After a first round of 1.1 million euros investment in 2015 and a second round of 2.4 million in 2017, the extremely innovative concept that emerged after seven years of research was recently awarded at CES 2018 in Las Vegas.

Robotic inspection: Nasa testing new system for checking and fixing aircraft fuselages

January 29, 2018 by Sam Francis

Nasa robotic inspection-RoboDK-software

Inspecting the outer shell of an aeroplane sounds so mind-numbingly boring that it absolutely must be one of those so-called “3D” – dirty, dull and dangerous – jobs that robots are supposed to save us from.

The absolute tedium of closely inspecting every square centimetre of the surface area of, for example, a typical Boeing 747 – which is about 22,000 square feet – would inevitably mean that some tiny imperfections can be missed by human eyes.

But could robots do the job any better?  [Read more…] about Robotic inspection: Nasa testing new system for checking and fixing aircraft fuselages
