Leuze electronic claims it has launched the industry’s smallest camera-based sensor.

The IPS 200i is designed for compartment fine positioning with high-bay storage devices in single-depth storage.

Seat to build tallest automated warehouse in Spain

Automaker Seat says it is continuing with its commitment to making its Martorell, Spain factory “a benchmark of Industry 4.0”.

Seat, part of the Volkswagen Group, is going ahead with the construction of a new, automated logistics centre.

Daifuku Wynright was established in 2013 as a result of Daifuku Group’s acquisition of Wynright Corporation and is now the largest material handling company in the world.

Last year, the company generated almost $3 billion in revenue worldwide. Daifuku has approximately 6,500 employees globally, while Wynright has around 500.

Misty creates developer edition of home robot

Misty Robotics, the personal robot company spun out from Sphero, the creator of the BB-8 toy robot, announced, at CES 2018, the limited availability of the Misty I Developer Edition prototype robot and software tools.

The robot will be made available to a select group of developers and inventors who will help create useful skills for the next generation robot, Misty II, coming later in 2018. The Misty I Developer Edition robot will begin shipping next month and is priced at $1499.

“We believe that by creating an affordable and highly programmable robot for developers first, we can accelerate towards a future of helpful personal robots in our homes and offices,” said Ian Bernstein, Founder and Head of Product, Misty Robotics.

Rising minimum wage pushing fast-food joints towards automation

The ongoing demand for an increase in the minimum wage to the level which would enable workers to buy burgers is leading fast-food giants to consider fully automating hundreds if not tens of thousands of restaurants across the US, getting rid of all the human employees. 

The latest senior executive to suggest such a move is Leonard Comma, CEO of fast-food chain Jack in the Box.

Brain-controlled industrial robot: BrainCo debuts BMI technologies at CES 2018

BrainCo, a brain-machine interface (BMI) startup incubated in the Harvard Innovation Lab, has revealed a BMI integrated robotic arm at CES 2018.

BMI technology allows direct communications between the human brains and external devices.

Yaskawa Motoman sells 60,000 more robots since last count

Yaskawa has sold 60,000 Motoman industrial robots since Robotics and Automation News last did a count. 

The company has been commenting on its tremendous success in recent months, saying that in China it has received so many orders it is having to expand its facilities.

Astounding growth at Universal Robots sees company sell 20,000 industrial robots

Universal Robots, one of the first companies to launch a collaborative industrial robot, says it has sold 10,000 more units since Robotics and Automation News last did a count. 

In a statement to the website, a spokesperson for the company says while Robotics and Automation News has been reporting that it has so far sold 10,000 units, the actual, most recent figure is in fact 20,000.
