Pickit unveils its first gripper with integrated vision and software aimed at forging and automotive sectors

August 20, 2021 by David Edwards

Robot vision specialist Pickit has unveiled its first gripper. Aimed at the forging and automotive sectors, the end-of-arm-tool has integrated vision and software.

“The bin picking revolution is happening now,” says Pickit. “With matured 3D vision and software, the implementation risks for bin picking revolve around the gripper design. We have integrated gripper, vision, and software to achieve unprecedented reliability. Here’s our new Billet Picker for forging and automotive applications.”

The company’s new product is called the “Billet Picker”, and is a combination of Pickit EOAT + Pickit 3D vision + Pickit software. [Read more…] about Pickit unveils its first gripper with integrated vision and software aimed at forging and automotive sectors

Nvidia and USC researchers demonstrate autonomous robotic cutting

August 20, 2021 by David Edwards

Nvidia and USC researchers have demonstrated an innovative approach to Autonomous Robotic Cutting in new work nominated for a Best Paper Award at the Robotics Science & Systems Conference  last month. (See video and images below.)

Robotic cutting of soft materials is critical for applications such as food processing, household automation, and surgical manipulation. As in other areas of robotics, simulators can facilitate controller verification, policy learning, and dataset generation. Moreover, differentiable simulators can enable gradient-based optimization, which is invaluable for calibrating simulation parameters and optimizing controllers.

In their work nominated for a Best Paper Award at RSS 2021, Nvidia researchers present DiSECt: the first differentiable simulator for cutting soft materials. The simulator augments the finite element method (FEM) with a continuous contact model based on signed distance fields (SDF), as well as a continuous damage model that inserts springs on opposite sides of the cutting plane and allows them to weaken until zero stiffness, enabling crack formation. Application of Slip Ring in Industrial Robot

August 20, 2021 by Liv

Basically, an industrial robot is a type of electromechanical machine which has the capability to solve complex series tasks without (or minimal) human intervention.

Slip ring in robot–For robotic integration and enhancement, slip ring is common used. With the help of slip ring technology, industrial robots can automate and solve complex tasks with high efficiency, accuracy and flexibility.

The slip ring is playing a vital role in the robotics industry. Sometimes in robotics applications, slip rings are also called as “Robot Slip Rings” or “Robotic Rotary Joints”. [Read more…] about Application of Slip Ring in Industrial Robot

How are industries using robots?

August 20, 2021 by Liv

For the last few decades we’ve seen an increase in robots and AI in both our home and work environment, and post-pandemic this figure is set to increase as companies look for ways of reducing person-to-person contact.

Pre-pandemic the International Federation of Robotics estimated that 1.3 million industrial robots were being used in a wide variety of industries, with a record global average of 113 robotic units per 10,000 employees.

It was found that Western Europe (225 units) and the Nordic European countries (204 units) have the most automated production followed by North America (153 units).
But what are the industries that are reliant on robotics? [Read more…] about How are industries using robots?
