Battery storage: The missing link in the power grid

June 12, 2025 by Sam Francis

It’s a common misconception that the electricity grid operates like a vast reservoir of power, storing energy and delivering it on demand. The reality is a far more precarious balancing act.

The grid is a real-time network where electricity generation must constantly match consumption. This system has served us for a century, but its lack of storage capacity is a critical vulnerability, especially as we transition to intermittent renewable energy sources.

This is where a new generation of technology comes in: Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). These are not merely scaled-up versions of consumer batteries; they are sophisticated, utility-scale power assets designed to address the grid’s core challenges. Humanoid robots forecast to see ‘14-fold market expansion in five years’

June 12, 2025 by Sam Francis

The global market for humanoid robots, widely categorized as “embodied AI”, is projected to grow rapidly over the next 10 years – and is expected to see a ‘14-fold market expansion in five years’ , according to IDTechEx.

This surge is fueled by major players like Tesla and BYD, who plan to expand humanoid deployment in their factories more than tenfold between 2025 and 2026, aiming for over 25 percent cost reduction per humanoid robot.

With 2025 seen as the industry’s take-off year, IDTechEx anticipates the market for humanoid robot sensory components, including LiDAR, encoders, torque sensors, 6-axis sensors, IMUs, MEMS sensors, and cameras, to reach approximately $10 billion within 10 years.
