Schilling Robotics to integrate Energid software into its Gemini underwater robot

November 13, 2020 by David Edwards

Schilling Robotics has selected Energid’s Actin software to be integrated into what is described as “the world’s most advanced work class remotely operated vehicles”, or ROVs, which are basically underwater robots.

Schilling is a division of TechnipFMC and will integrate Actin into its new automated Gemini ROV System.

Schilling Robotics is leveraging advanced motion control features of the Actin software to enhance the performance and effectiveness of the Gemini manipulators, one of the many break-through features of the Gemini ROV. Dust Collector vs Vacuum Cleaner

November 13, 2020 by Polly

I had just bought my new dream home, but one thing was obvious the day that I walked into it was which cleaning system I would need to work smarter and not harder.

After my finances had been depleted by buying a new home, I was not able to hire cleaning help and so I knew I would have to do it by myself.

And I didn’t want it to be time consuming. So, I thought about whether I should buy one of the new models of vacuum cleaners or a dust cleaner. I had to do some research and learned a few things or two about the difference between vacuum cleaners and dust cleaners as it relates to house cleaning. Robotics market sees accelerated growth amid e-commerce boom

November 12, 2020 by David Edwards

By Steve Richmond, director of logistics systems, Jungheinrich

New use cases for robotics are being identified almost daily. The rapid growth of e-commerce, fuelled in part by necessity from Covid-19 lockdowns, has meant that for many organisations, the requirements for staff and goods is growing at a rate too fast to meet demand – the need for automation is now greater than ever.

With technology advancing rapidly, almost anything can now be automated. And with intelligent navigation and precise picking technology, even items of an odd size, shape or material can be handled by robots.

As this technology becomes increasingly more sophisticated, enabling robots to perform roles with accuracy, consistency and safety front of mind, this has also advanced the ability for robots to communicate with other robots around the facility. Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing Institute selects projects for multimillion-dollar awards

November 10, 2020 by David Edwards

The Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing Institute has selected eight new robotics technology projects aligned with the organization’s mission to strengthen US manufacturing and empower workers.

A total of $7.5 million will be contributed across these eight projects. ARM plans to award $2.9 million in project funding, and the participating organizations plan to contribute $4.6 million in cost share. To date, ARM has invested in more than 70 robotics technology and workforce development projects.

The ARM Institute, in partnership with its 270+ member organizations, identifies areas of need in manufacturing, which are used as strategic focus areas in its project calls. [Read more…] about Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing Institute selects projects for multimillion-dollar awards

SICK launches new product for contactless measurement of speed and length

November 7, 2020 by David Edwards

SICK Sensor Intelligence has launched a new system for contactless measurement of speed and length.

With the SPEETEC sensor solution, SICK says it is expanding its product range for speed and length measurement of objects moving in a linear path to include technology that measures directly on the material surface.

The non-contact sensor is able to measure a wide range of web and continuous materials, as well as blanks with an accuracy of just 4 µm. [Read more…] about SICK launches new product for contactless measurement of speed and length

How technology is changing the CBD Industry

October 29, 2020 by Liv

After the legalization of marijuana products, technology has played a big role in the CBD industry. It is a fact that the CBD industry is growing faster than companies can harvest the plants.

Researches by reputable financial firms show that by 2022, the CBD industry will be worth more than 22 billion dollars. Wall Street experts estimate that within a decade, the industry will be worth at least more than 75 billion dollars.

A 2018 bill played a big role in removing hemp and other marijuana-related products from the list of controlled substances. That brought about the introduction of cultivation and legal commercialization of
cannabis-related products. Here are several ways technology has influenced the CBD industry. [Read more…] about How technology is changing the CBD Industry

4 Ways Drones Will Change The World Forever

October 28, 2020 by Polly

Drones have become so popular for a multitude of reasons. Firstly, they’re just cool. They are v/stol flying robots. They can lift off vertically, hover in the air, fly around, spinning, manoeuvring in tight spots and just allowing us to see things from a bird’s eye perspective.

On the other hand, they are also useful for businesses that want to inspect areas in manufacturing plants, fields in agriculture, disaster recovery operations and safety concerns for areas like volcanos and dams. But, they are being adapted to play a critical role in military applications, sports events, and the logistics industry too. Let’s take a closer look at this. Are Robots After Your Job?

October 14, 2020 by Polly

With all the new technology being developed lately, it’s common to worry about job security, especially when we consider that robotics and automation are bound to eventually replace a lot of workers. In fact, it’s pretty common to find businesses automating tasks that we once performed by humans.

Not only are machines more reliable, they’re also unhindered by things like fatigue and stress, which essentially minimizes the margin of error.

Coupled with the Covid-19 pandemic and the migration of business to the online landscape, job security is now more important than ever. [Read more…] about Are Robots After Your Job?
