Essentium closes $22.2 million in Series A funding

Essentium, a provider of 3D printing solutions for industrial additive manufacturing, has closed $22.2 million in Series A funding.

The round was led by BASF Venture Capital with participation from Materialise, Genesis Park, and previous seed round investors.

Omron releases new collaborative robot in partnership with TechMan

Industrial automation giant Omron has released a new collaborative robot in partnership with TechMan. (See video below.)

The companies say the Omron-TM collaborative robot automates repetitive tasks and enhances human-machine collaboration, and is now available worldwide.

Giant Food Stores puts robots into all its stores

Giant Food Stores has started installing robots in all its stores, which is at least 172 locations.

The installation is said to be one of the largest applications of in-store robotics innovation in the US.

Amazon ‘field testing’ delivery robot as part of premium service

Amazon is “field testing” a small delivery robot as part of its premium service, Amazon Prime. (See video below.) 

The robot, called Amazon Scout, is a “fully-electric delivery system” designed to safely get packages to customers using autonomous delivery devices, says the company in its blog.

Festo and Lely unveil new version of milking robot

Festo and Lely have developed the fifth generation of a milking robot – called “Astronaut A5”.

The companies say the strategic partnership between the two family-owned companies creates “technological advantages” which place them “at the forefront of robotic milking technology”.

PepsiCo sends Robby’s delivery robot to college

PepsiCo has enrolled its “Hello Goodness snackbot” into college. (See video below.) 

What the company calls “the friendliest new freshman” at University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, arrived on campus earlier this month. And it’s stocked with snacks and beverages.

Starship Technologies partners with Sodexo to launch ‘world’s largest fleet of delivery robots on a university campus’

First robot delivery service integrated with student meal plans debuts at George Mason University today

Sodexo, a food services and facilities company, and Starship Technologies, a robotics company, have partnered to launch robot food delivery services at George Mason University’s Fairfax, Virginia campus. (See video below.)

Beginning today, Mason’s 40,000 students, faculty and staff can access the Starship Deliveries app (iOS and Android) to order food and drinks to be delivered anywhere on campus, within minutes.

Blaze Pizza, Starbucks, and Dunkin’ are the first retailers to participate, with more to be announced in the coming weeks. Samsung partners with Pepperl+Fuchs to launch ruggedized tablet for hazardous industries

Samsung has partnered with ecom – owned by Pepperl+Fuchs – to launch a ruggedized tablet for hazardous industries.

The companies say the tablet “increases safety, ease-of-use for mobile workers in oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceuticals and other industries operating in hazardous environments”.

GreyOrange to launch new warehouse automation products at LogiMAT

Custom computing solutions manufacturer MBX Systems has unveiled its new hardware manufacturing orchestration software.

The company has introduced the platform at the I/ITSEC conference a couple of months ago.
