Xilinx launches ‘industry’s first’ 20 nanometer space-grade FPGA chip

June 9, 2020 by Sam Francis Leave a Comment

Chipmaker Xilinx claims it has achieved “lift-off” with the launch of what it says is the industry’s first 20 nanometer space-grade FPGA for satellite and space applications.

Xilinx, which invented field-programmable gate array chips, says the new FPGA provides full radiation tolerance and ultra-high throughput and bandwidth performance for satellite and space applications.

The new 20nm Radiation Tolerant Kintex UltraScale XQRKU060 FPGA provides true unlimited on-orbit reconfiguration, over a 10x increase in digital signal processing (DSP) performance – ideal for payload applications – and full radiation tolerance across all orbits, says Xilinx. Xilinx unveils ‘world’s largest’ FPGA chip with 9 million system logic cells

August 21, 2019 by David Edwards

Xilinx has launched what it claims is the “world’s largest” FPGA chip featuring 9 million system logic cells.

Xilinx says the new chip represents the expansion of its 16 nanometer (nm) Virtex UltraScale+ range.

The new FPGA – the Virtex UltraScale+ VU19P – has 35 billion transistors, and provides “the highest logic density and I/O count on a single device ever built”, according to Xilinx. [Read more…] about Xilinx unveils ‘world’s largest’ FPGA chip with 9 million system logic cells

Top 25 AI chip companies: A macro step change inferred from the micro scale

May 24, 2019 by Abdul Montaqim

One of the effects of the ongoing trade war between the US and China is likely to be the accelerated development of what are being called “artificial intelligence chips”, or AI chips for short, also sometimes referred to as AI accelerators.

AI chips could play a critical role in economic growth going forward because they will inevitably feature in cars, which are becoming increasingly autonomous; smart homes, where electronic devices are becoming more intelligent; robotics, obviously; and many other technologies.

AI chips, as the term suggests, refers to a new generation of microprocessors which are specifically designed to process artificial intelligence tasks faster, using less power. [Read more…] about Top 25 AI chip companies: A macro step change inferred from the micro scale
