7 Crucial Automobile Safety Considerations for Mechanics

January 11, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Some people want to own a car, and some want to fix it. The automobile makes our life easy, and automobile mechanics help do it. We can repair our vehicles anytime we want, and they provide the best work for our car.

Aside from all, there are some safety rules that all the mechanics should be appropriately followed. It is a risky job to fix a vehicle. Without proper knowledge and enough safety precautions, no one should perform the job. It is not a game to play. However, it is amusing and exciting to work on vehicles.  [Read more…] about 7 Crucial Automobile Safety Considerations for Mechanics

Robots increasingly taking over film camera work

December 30, 2021 by Mark Allinson

Robots are increasingly taking over from what has traditional been the preserve of human creative people – film camera work.

According to a company called SISU Cinema Robotics, more and more film creators are turning to automated systems for recording moving images.

“Businesses, both large brands and independent retailers, have seen a rise in sales after the spike in high quality content across platforms,” says a SISU spokesperson in an email to Robotics and Automation News. [Read more…] about Robots increasingly taking over film camera work

MIT unveils dexterous robotic hands that can ‘manipulate thousands of objects with ease’

December 8, 2021 by Mark Allinson

MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory has revealed a dexterous robotic hand that scientists say can “manipulate thousands of objects with ease”. (See video below.)

At just one year old, a baby is more dexterous than a robot. Sure, machines can do more than just pick up and put down objects, but we’re not quite there as far as replicating a natural pull towards exploratory or sophisticated dexterous manipulation goes.

OpenAI gave it a try with “Dactyl” (meaning “finger” from the Greek word daktylos), using their humanoid robot hand to solve a Rubik’s cube with software that’s a step towards more general AI, and a step away from the common single-task mentality. DeepMind created “RGB-Stacking,” a vision-based system that challenges a robot to learn how to grab items and stack them.

Scientists from MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), in the ever-present quest to get machines to replicate human abilities, created a framework that’s more scaled up: a system that can reorient over two thousand different objects, with the robotic hand facing both upwards and downwards.
