MiR opens US office, launches autonomous mobile robot into North America

Mobile Industrial Robots, MiR, has opened its first US office and is launching its autonomous mobile robot – the MiR100 – in the North American market.

MiR says its robots are already in use in 19 countries at prominent manufacturers such as Leoni, Flextronics, and Continental.

MiR says its products are at the forefront of a new generation of autonomous mobile robots whose ease of use, flexibility and payback of less than a year. The company believes it will secure a leadership role in North America.

ABB buys SVIA to strengthen robotics and automation offering

ABB has acquired SVIA, a provider in the fast-growing market of robot automation cells for machine tending.

SVIA, headquartered in Jönköping, Sweden, builds automated solutions for machine tending processes, using robots to feed components to lathes and mills, and to secondary processes like assembly, washing and part marking.

UnityPoint Health awards Omnicell 10-year medical automation contract

UnityPoint Health has awarded Omnicell a 10-year sole source contract as its provider of medication automation, central pharmacy automation and analytics software across 15 of its facilities.

UnityPoint Health says it expects Omnicell’s solutions to advance the highest standards of patient safety and security while optimizing pharmacist, nurse and anesthesiologist workflows.

Two features offered by Omnicell are the Omnicell Unity enterprise platform, which gives health systems visibility across multiple Omnicell systems, and interoperability with the Epic electronic health record system, which is used by UnityPoint Health. Honeywell establishes new industrial internet of things business unit

Honeywell Process Solutions has established a new industrial internet of things (IIoT) business unit.

The company says its new IIoT unit will help manufacturers harness the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and more rapidly deploy technologies that will allow them to better manage and analyze data, making their operations safer, more reliable and more efficient.

Vimal Kapur, HPS president, says: “Since HPS’s introduction of the modern automation control system, we have helped plants and manufacturing sites around the world use an increasing amount of data to solve customer’s productivity and safety challenges.

The two companies say they will jointly develop Industry 4.0 solutions, while Kuka has established a new software company 

Kuka and Infosys say they will jointly develop solutions to support companies embracing Industry 4.0.

Kuka is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of industrial robots, and Infosys specialises in software solutions for large businesses.

Swisslog has acquired Power Automation Systems (PAS), a company which specialises in pallet shuttle automated storage and retrieval systems – mostly used in logistics.

Omron launches new range of industrial robots

Japanese electronics company expands product range by making move into robotics

Omron has launched a new series of industrial robots. The release includes 49 robots developed by Omron Adept Technologies. All products are to be made available in 39 countries around the world, says the company.

The robots have been integrated with Omron’s family of sensors, safety components and NX/NJ series machine automation controllers to “simplify the introduction of robots in a production environment”, says the company.
