Universal Robots executive receives prestigious robotics award for contribution to robot safety

For the second time within five years, a key figure at Universal Robots, the Danish manufacturer of collaborative robots (cobots), has been awarded the world’s most prestigious robotics prize, the Joseph F. Engelberger Robotics Award, often described as the Nobel Prize of robotics.

Following in the footsteps of Universal Robots’ co-founder Esben Østergaard, who was given the Engelberger Award in 2018 in the Technology category, Roberta Nelson Shea (main picture), Universal Robot’s Global Technical Compliance Officer, has received the award for Applications at a ceremony at the Automate Show in Detroit.

The Application category recognises individuals or organisations that have made a significant contribution to the development of robotics technology and its practical application. Roberta won the award for her outstanding work related to robotics safety across the world. Techman launches new collaborative robot with ‘longest reach’

Techman Robot has launched a new robot, giving the first opportunity to see the TM AI Cobot TM25S at the Automate Show.

The company says its “revolutionary” 25 kg payload collaborative robot joins TM Robot’s already impressive lineup and the TM AI Cobot S Series.

DJI’s launches new commercial drone

DJI, the world’s largest civilian drones and aerial imaging technology company, has launched a new drone, which “sets a new standard for any commercial drone operator”, according to the company.

It adds that the DJI Matrice 350 RTK (M350 RTK) “redefines the ultimate tool for the commercial drone industry”.

XTEND acquires drone inspection specialist Performance Rotors

XTEND, the developer of XOS, a human-guided autonomous operating system, or human-machine interaction system, has acquired Performance Rotors, a Singapore-based drone inspection specialist.

XTEND says the move will boost its ability to offer human-guided, remote interactive operations in a range of inspection scenarios, and grow its global business. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

ANYbotics raises $50 million in Series B investment

ANYbotics, a Swiss robotics startup specialising in four-legged mobile robots, have raised $50 million in Series B investment.

The funding round was led by international deep tech investors Walden Catalyst and NGP Capital with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners, Aramco Ventures, Swisscom Ventures, Swisscanto Private Equity, and other existing investors.

Megvii 3D pallet shuttle robot awarded CE certificate

Megvii Automation & Robotics, the robotic arm of AI giant Megvii, has received a CE certificate from SGS, a top testing, inspection, and certification company, at the Logimat 2023 trade fair in Stuttgart, Germany.

Megvii Automation & Robotics says this certification is a “major milestone” for the company’s independent material-handling solutions in European markets, making it the first Chinese peer to receive official certification for meeting EU safety standards.

According to Mark Lohmann, SGS’s Global Certification Visa Officer, Megvii’s 3D pallet shuttle systems have passed a series of rigorous safety assessments and tests, including safety structure, electrical and mechanical safety of the entire machine, electromagnetic compatibility, functional safety, components, battery, and BMS safety. Fugro’s marine robot completes ‘world’s first’ fully remote offshore wind ROV inspection

What is being described as “the world’s first” fully remote inspection of offshore wind farm assets has been successfully carried out by Fugro, using one of its Blue Essence uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) with Blue Volta, an electrical remotely operated vehicle (eROV).

The inspection at the Aberdeen offshore wind farm in the North Sea (also known as the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre) was jointly funded by Vattenfall and Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult.

This partnership gives innovators in the offshore wind supply chain the opportunity to test and prove technologies in real-world conditions to support innovation in operations and maintenance.
