Red Cat and Palladyne embed AI into drones to enable autonomous operation

Palladyne AI, a developer of artificial intelligence software for robotic platforms, and Red Cat Holdings, a drone technology company, are partnering to enhance the autonomous capabilities of all Red Cat’s Teal drones using Palladyne AI’s Pilot software.

Leveraging its years of innovative development work for US Government customers, Palladyne AI is developing an artificial intelligence platform for unmanned systems to enable persistent detection, tracking, and classification of objects of interest by synthesizing multi-modal sensor fusion data in real-time.

The AI product for mobile systems, known as “Palladyne Pilot”, will facilitate shared situational awareness across multiple drones and autonomous navigation when integrated with drone autopilot systems. Teledyne’s Thermal by FLIR program sees expansion with US drone makers BRINC and Teal

Thermal By FLIR Collaborators Teal and BRINC Mark the Next Generation of Small Thermal-Equipped Unmanned Aircraft for Defense and Public Safety Use

Teledyne FLIR, part of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated, today announced continued momentum within its Thermal by FLIR program for small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS), highlighted by the integration of its Hadron 640R dual visible-thermal payload within the recently announced Teal 2 drone and the Lepton 3.5 thermal micro camera within the BRINC LEMUR 2. 

Mike Walters, vice president, product management, Teledyne FLIR, says: “Teledyne FLIR brings decades of thermal camera development experience to the sUAS market, with a strict focus on reducing the size, weight, and power while expanding the technical capabilities today’s emergency personnel, law enforcement, and warfighters require.

FLIR Systems launches new sensor for drones and robots

FLIR Systems has launched something called “FLIR Hadron”, which the company describes as the industry’s first dual sensor module for drone, robotic, and imaging original equipment manufacturers.

Designed to help reduce development costs and improve time-to-market, the lightweight, low power, and compact form factor includes a 12-megapixel visible camera paired with the FLIR Boson 320×240 resolution thermal camera with up to a 60-hertz framerate.

Paul Clayton, general manager, components business at FLIR, says: “With the introduction of Hadron, FLIR Systems is leading the way in offering low-cost, dual sensor integration across a variety of industries from commercial drones to industrial imaging systems.
