Comau unveils new robotic arc welding system that ‘increases productivity and reduces costs with AI’

December 17, 2025 by David Edwards

Ensuring the efficient and safe handling of welding applications is a significant challenge for steel companies. To address this complexity and at the same time achieve the highest production quality, more and more companies are adopting robotic, advanced and intelligent solutions.

This is driven by the shortage of skilled labor and the risks associated with harsh working conditions, with the aim of optimizing processes, reducing costs, and improving operator safety.

Such is the case with Tubosider, a manufacturer of steel products used for civil works, such as road and noise barriers, pipelines, and linings for tunnels and tanks, which help protect people and the environment. The global company has adopted an automated solution for arc welding developed by system integrator X-Machine based in Alba (Italy), using Comau technologies. CHIPX to build advanced semiconductor manufacturing fabrication facility in Malaysia

December 17, 2025 by David Edwards

CHIPX, a next-generation semiconductor and photonics manufacturer, has announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art, 8-inch wafer fabrication facility in Malaysia, the first of its kind in the ASEAN region.

The facility will introduce advanced GaN/SiC manufacturing, driving Malaysia’s entry into front-end semiconductor production and accelerating domestic capability in photonics, high-bandwidth optical interconnects, and advanced materials engineering essential to next-generation AI and high-performance compute systems.

CHIPX is establishing advanced front-end manufacturing capabilities in Malaysia, spanning infrastructure, R&D, engineering teams, talent development programs, and structured technology-transfer initiatives that build local expertise. MIT and Stanford university researchers demonstrate vine-inspired robotic gripper that ‘gently lifts heavy and fragile objects’

December 17, 2025 by David Edwards

The new design could be adapted to assist the elderly, sort warehouse products, or unload heavy cargo.

In the horticultural world, some vines are especially grabby. As they grow, the woody tendrils can wrap around obstacles with enough force to pull down entire fences and trees.

Inspired by vines’ twisty tenacity, engineers at MIT and Stanford University have developed a robotic gripper that can snake around and lift a variety of objects, including a glass vase and a watermelon, offering a gentler approach compared to conventional gripper designs. A larger version of the robo-tendrils can also safely lift a human out of bed.

The new bot consists of a pressurized box, positioned near the target object, from which long, vine-like tubes inflate and grow, like socks being turned inside out. As they extend, the vines twist and coil around the object before continuing back toward the box, where they are automatically clamped in place and mechanically wound back up to gently lift the object in a soft, sling-like grasp. NūMove introduces an innovative robot tool for layer picking automation

December 17, 2025 by David Edwards

NūMove Robotics & Vision has introduced its latest innovation in robotics: a newly designed layer depalletizing tool engineered for enhanced adaptability and performance in high-throughput logistics environments. This improved robot tool enables efficient depalletizing of both single-SKU and rainbow pallets.

This new end-of-arm tool for depalletizing represents a significant advancement over NūMove’s previous models that relied solely on suction and forks. The latest design integrates three complementary gripping mechanisms – suction, clamping, and bottom forks – enabling the robot to securely handle a broader range of packaging types and formats.

These include closed cases, open cases, wrapped or unwrapped trays, and carton boxes in a tray. To avoid product damage, sensors verify that the layer is properly lifted before the bottom forks are extended. [Read more…] about NūMove introduces an innovative robot tool for layer picking automation

From Pilot to Production: Autonomous Trucking Explained

December 16, 2025 by David Edwards

Autonomous trucking is starting to look less like a science project and more like an operating model. The hard part is no longer only the driving system itself.

The real work is building everything around it: how freight is booked, how vehicles are supported in the field, how safety cases are proven, how regulations are implemented, and how uptime is protected when the unexpected happens.

In a recent industry interview, a major truck manufacturer’s autonomy division described its position as already operating commercially and focused on scaling through partnerships, production integration, and an ecosystem approach rather than treating autonomy as a side experiment. Understanding Lease Agreements for Autonomous Vehicle Fleets

December 16, 2025 by David Edwards

As the world moves closer to the widespread adoption of autonomous vehicles, businesses are exploring ways to integrate self-driving technology into their operations.

One of the most efficient ways to deploy autonomous vehicle fleets is through leasing rather than outright ownership. Understanding lease agreements in this context is critical for companies to manage costs, legal obligations, and operational risks effectively.

A lease agreement is a legal contract between a lessor, who owns the asset, and a lessee, who seeks to use the asset for a specified period in exchange for payment. [Read more…] about Understanding Lease Agreements for Autonomous Vehicle Fleets

From Idle Trucks to Smart Fleets: The Real Impact of Telematics in the USA

December 16, 2025 by David Edwards

If you ask someone working in fleet operations today whether telematics matters, many would respond with a quick “yes”, but seldom stop to think how much difference it really makes.

A recent industry study found that more than 70 percent of fleets using GPS-based tracking and telematics for at least three years report that safety became the top benefit of their investment.

That doesn’t just reflect better paperwork or neat dashboards. It signals a shift: fleets are transforming from reactive cost-centers into proactive, data-driven operations. [Read more…] about From Idle Trucks to Smart Fleets: The Real Impact of Telematics in the USA
