Continental expands logistics center for car aftermarket

May 14, 2019 by David Edwards

Continental has expanded its logistics center in Gross-Rohrheim south of Frankfurt, the site that supplies dealers all over the world with spare parts.

During the course of the second quarter, the technology company will put its new 7,000 sq m warehouse extension into operation, expanding the total available area to 34,000 sq m.

The new logistics area serves as a picking and storage area. It has a separate small parts warehouse with more than 25,000 storage spaces – almost 20,000 more than before – so dealers can also be supplied economically with spare parts in small quantities and with shorter order cycles.

Australian university focuses on future food systems

April 30, 2019 by Anna

Queensland University of Technology (QUT) researchers will play a key part in developing smart logistics to link growers with their markets and high-tech methods of growing customised food, with the announcement of the Future Food Systems Cooperative Research Centre.

The Future Food Systems CRC will involve more than 50 commercial and research partners, with the Federal Government injecting AUS$35 million in funding over 10 years along with almost AUS$150 million in support from the research centre’s educational and commercial participants.

QUT’s involvement in the CRC is spread across the centre’s three research and development programs of planning and logistics in linking growers to their markets, developing smart automated indoor cropping and creating nutrient-dense foods and hybrid food and medical goods tailored to growing domestic and export markets.

April 23, 2019 by David Edwards

sick lector621 IM0078983 copy

Sick has launched a new compact image-based code reader, Lector621, for reliable detection of 1D, 2D, stacked codes, and plain text.

The high-performance DPM – direct part marking – decoder can read laser or dot-peened codes perfectly, even in the case of low contrast levels, contamination, or poor code quality.

This fills a gap in Sick’s existing portfolio of code readers, by providing a compact solution with increased reading distance, resolution, field of vision, and scanning frequency. [Read more…] about Sick launches new compact image-based code reader

The phrase “e-commerce in the USA” might immediately bring to mind the giant of the sector, Amazon, which is said to have received fully 40 percent of all online shopping orders over the Christmas period in the country.

It’s difficult to imagine how many orders and how much money that really is, but it’s not difficult to imagine Amazon being the winner – the company has been the biggest e-commerce platform in the US for many years.

Top 10 e-commerce companies in the US

According to eMarketer, Amazon has almost 50 percent of the US retail e-commerce market, as it showed in its list, which we reproduce below.  [Read more…] about E-commerce in the USA: Fast-growing demand for warehouse robots
