ABB launches Genix management system for industrial equipment

ABB says it is bringing artificial intelligence to asset performance management for improved efficiencies and increased uptime across industries in the form of something Genix.

The launch of ABB Ability Genix Asset Performance Management Suite “brings next-generation AI-based predictive maintenance, asset reliability and integrity insights to process and utility industries”, says the company.

Sea Machines completes ‘world’s first’ 1,000 nautical mile autonomous voyage

Sea Machines Robotics​​​​, a developer of autonomous command and control systems for the maritime industry, has completed what is believed to be the world’s first 1,000+ nautical miles autonomous and remotely commanded journey of a commercial vessel at sea.

Under the project name The Machine Odyssey, the autonomous tug Nellie Bly completed its journey in just 129 operational hours over 13 days.

Seeq names Petter Mörée as managing director of EMEA and introduces industry principals group

Seeq Corporation, a provider of advanced analytics software for manufacturing and industrial internet of things, has appointed Petter Mörée as managing director for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). Seeq also announced a new group of industry principals.

Lisa Graham, chief operating officer at Seeq, says: 

“Petter brings a deep understanding of the process industries to our team, along with an impressive career scaling global customer bases across the pharmaceutical and bioprocess verticals.

Berkshire Grey partners with AHS to develop warehouse robotics services

Berkshire Grey, a developer of robotic solutions that automate supply chain processes, is partnering with Advanced Handling Systems, a system integrator of fulfillment and distribution solutions within the supply chain.

The partnership aims to help companies grow despite the labor shortages and logistics challenges that are straining the supply chain.

The two companies will combine their AI-enabled robotic automation and system design and integration services to deliver “next-generation warehouse robotics” to the world’s largest and best-known e-commerce and third party logistics providers. SafeAI releases ‘first operating system purpose-built for autonomous heavy equipment’

SafeAI, a developer of software for autonomous heavy equipment, has released its SafeAI Autonomous Framework, which the company claims is “the first operating system built specifically for autonomous heavy equipment”.

The company says that, with the SAF, companies can use both SafeAI’s infrastructure and industry expertise to accelerate their autonomous application development and create safer, more productive job sites faster than ever.

Off-road heavy industries know they need to deploy autonomous solutions to remain competitive. DFI third-largest in Taiwan’s industrial computer sector

DFI is the third-largest manufacturer of industrial computers in Taiwan, according to new research by TrendForce.

Industrial computers have always been an industry in which Taiwanese manufacturers enjoy an advantage, with a total annual revenue of nearly $8 billion.

According to a research report released by TrendForce in July, in the first half of 2021, DFI, specializing in smart manufacturing, smart healthcare, and intelligent transportation systems/infrastructures, ranked third with a revenue of NT$5.28 billion (equivalent to $186.7 million). ABB upgrades its IRB 1300 robot with new protection for harsh and cleanroom applications

ABB’s 6-axis IRB 1300 industrial robot includes new protection elements that enable it to be used in tough industrial applications and contamination-free production processes.

ABB says this opens up new opportunities for increased productivity, improved product quality and reduced cycle times in a variety of industries including electronics assembly, automotive and metals fabrication, amongst others.

Originally launched in 2020, the IRB 1300 is now available in IP67, Foundry Plus 2 and cleanroom ISO 4 versions. This will expand its use in tough environments, with high levels of liquids and dust. Koch Industries’ OnPoint Digital and AWS collaborate to develop industrial engineering platform

OnPoint Digital Solutions, a subsidiary of Koch Engineered Solutions, has agreed a collaboration with Amazon Web Services to co-develop an intelligent process optimization platform (IPOP).

The platform – designed to enable OnPoint’s solutions – will utilize cloud and edge digital infrastructure to provide advanced machine learning and industrial computing capabilities for OnPoint’s connected ecosystem, enabling industrial operators and their preferred partners to integrate and act upon the best available knowledge anywhere, anytime, at scale.

Manufacturers worldwide are modifying operations to address the Industry 4.0 revolution and the associated infrastructure necessary to integrate smart technologies. Advanced Intelligent Systems launches UV light disinfection robot

Advanced Intelligent Systems (AIS), a Canadian custom robotics engineering firm, has launched an ultraviolet light robot to destroy harmful bacteria and viruses in healthcare facilities and combat the spread of infectious diseases in public spaces.

The development was made possible by a grant from Next Generation Manufacturing Canada (NGen).

Jayson Myers, CEO, NGen, says: “At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, NGen rallied industry leaders from across the country to help build a domestic supply of critical equipment.
