Soft Robotics using Nvidia simulation technology to develop its gripping system

February 16, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Soft Robotics has applied Nvidia Isaac Sim’s synthetic data to food processing automation in efforts to improve safety and increase production.

Developers have been striving to close the gap on robotic gripping for the past several years, pursuing applications for multibillion-dollar industries. Securely gripping and transferring fast-moving items on conveyor belts holds vast promise for businesses.

Soft Robotics, a Bedford, Massachusetts startup, is harnessing Nvidia Isaac Sim to help close the sim to real gap for a handful of robotic gripping applications. One area is perfecting gripping for pick and placement of foods for packaging. [Read more…] about Soft Robotics using Nvidia simulation technology to develop its gripping system

Growth in electric vehicle manufacturing drives industrial robot sales to record highs in North America

February 15, 2023 by David Edwards

Data released by the Association for Advancing Automation show that 44,196 robots were ordered in 2022, up 11 percent over 2021. The record results are credited to a resurgence in sales to automotive companies looking to boost electric vehicle production.

Driven by the resurgence in robot orders from automotive companies, the North American robotics market set all-time records in both robots sold and value in 2022.

According to the report from the Association for Advancing Automation (A3), North American companies ordered 44,196 robots valued at $2.38 billion last year, representing increases of 11 percent and 18 percent, respectively, over 2021, the previous record. Apptronik and Terex to jointly develop robots for commercial use

February 7, 2023 by David Edwards

Apptronik, a maker of general-purpose robots, exoskeletons and humanoids, has received an equity investment from Terex Corporation and has reached an agreement with Terex to co-develop “first-of-a-kind robots” to work alongside workers to support safety, productivity, and efficiency of industries that power the economy and are essential to building infrastructure.

Robots have long held the promise of solving labor shortages and productivity issues, but until recently have been limited to performing repetitive tasks within structured environments such as warehouses or factories.

While robots have proven useful at completing dull and repetitive tasks in controlled environments, they have not been leveraged for more complex tasks in unstructured environments. [Read more…] about Apptronik and Terex to jointly develop robots for commercial use

Bin-picking systems market forecast to grow to $5.6 billion by 2033

February 7, 2023 by David Edwards

The global bin picking systems market is anticipated to be valued at $1.7 billion in 2023 and it is anticipated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 12.5 percent to reach $5.6 billion by the end of 2033, according to a report by Fact.MR.

A bin picking system is a technology in which a robot is incorporated with a 3D, camera, optical sensor (3D or 2D) and an end effector (magnet gripper, and others) to remove parts from a container full of disorganized, irregularly shaped pieces.

Robotic arm receives command based on the analysis done by the computer vision system and the vision system examine the target area and recognize the position of the pieces. [Read more…] about Bin-picking systems market forecast to grow to $5.6 billion by 2033
