Fort Robotics launches long-range bluetooth capability for its safety system

October 23, 2025 by Sam Francis

Fort Robotics, a provider of safe control systems for robots and mobile machines, has announced the launch of its new Long Range Bluetooth (BLE) capability.

This feature is immediately available for Fort’s Safe Remote Control Pro and Endpoint Controller products, enabling customers to achieve reliable wireless safety over longer distances and use their machines globally without complex radio certifications.

As Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and humanoids increasingly operate alongside human workers in crowded environments, the need for universal, reliable wireless safety communication has become critical. [Read more…] about Fort Robotics launches long-range bluetooth capability for its safety system

Awkward question: What will be the ‘killer app’ for humanoid robots?

October 22, 2025 by Sam Francis

Tesla’s latest humanoid demonstration – a kung fu routine performed by its Optimus robot for actor Jared Leto – was clearly designed to impress.

But, as dramatic and as thought-provoking as it was, the spectacle raised an awkward question: what will be the “killer app” for humanoid robots?

“Killer app” is a phrase to mean the defining use case that makes a technology indispensable. In every major technology shift, there’s been a defining use case – a killer app – that turned novelty into necessity. For early personal computers, it was spreadsheets – programs like VisiCalc and later Excel that justified owning a machine running DOS. Unitree unveils new ‘Destiny Awakening’ humanoid robot

October 22, 2025 by Sam Francis

Chinese robotics company Unitree has introduced its latest humanoid robot, the H2, described as a “graceful rebirth” of industrial design and motion control.

Standing 182 cm tall and weighing around 70 kg, the H2 features a streamlined metallic frame built from aircraft-grade aluminum, titanium alloy and high-strength plastics.

It is powered by low-inertia, high-speed permanent magnet synchronous motors that deliver up to 360 N·m of joint torque in the legs and 120 N·m in the arms, giving the robot impressive mobility and balance. [Read more…] about Unitree unveils new ‘Destiny Awakening’ humanoid robot

Interview with NexCOBOT’s general manager: ‘Single control platform’

October 14, 2025 by Sam Francis

As humanoid robots move from research labs into production environments, one of the biggest challenges for developers is system integration.

Building a robot that can see, move, and interact safely with humans requires multiple layers of computing – AI inference, real-time motion control, and certified functional safety – traditionally managed on separate platforms.

Bridging those systems efficiently is becoming the defining test for the next wave of humanoid design. [Read more…] about Interview with NexCOBOT’s general manager: ‘Single control platform’

Figure unveils third-generation humanoid robot

October 9, 2025 by Mai Tao

Figure has introduced its third-generation humanoid robot, Figure 03, which the company says is designed for use in the home, commercial environments, and at scale in global markets.

The new model features a ground-up hardware and software redesign and is built to integrate with Helix, Figure’s proprietary vision-language-action AI.

According to the company, Helix enables “true reasoning throughout the world” by combining advanced perception and manipulation with large-scale data learning. [Read more…] about Figure unveils third-generation humanoid robot

Is ABB making a mistake selling its robotics division?

October 9, 2025 by Mai Tao

ABB’s decision to sell its robotics business to SoftBank for $5.4 billion raises a fundamental question: why exit one of the few industrial sectors almost universally expected to grow?

The company had previously considered spinning off the division as a standalone business but ultimately opted for a clean sale.

The move may provide ABB with capital to reinvest in its more profitable electrification and automation units, but it also means surrendering a foothold in a market with long-term potential. [Read more…] about Is ABB making a mistake selling its robotics division?

Pioneering roboticist Rodney Brooks says humanoid robots matching human skills is ‘pure fantasy’

October 1, 2025 by David Edwards

Rodney Brooks, the renowned roboticist and co-founder of iRobot (maker of the Roomba), has published a lengthy critique of the current humanoid robotics wave, arguing that today’s approaches will not deliver human-level dexterity on useful timelines.

The essay, titled “Why Today’s Humanoids Won’t Learn Dexterity” was posted on his personal blog on September 26, 2025. In it, Brooks says the idea that humanoid robots will be able to do the manual things that humans do any time within decades is “pure fantasy thinking”.

Brooks frames dexterous manipulation as the core requirement for general-purpose humanoids to make economic sense. [Read more…] about Pioneering roboticist Rodney Brooks says humanoid robots matching human skills is ‘pure fantasy’

Nvidia launches new open-source models and simulation tools to accelerate robotics research

September 30, 2025 by David Edwards

Nvidia has unveiled a suite of new open technologies designed to speed up the development and deployment of advanced robotics, including humanoid systems. The announcement was made alongside updates to the company’s Isaac robotics platform.

At the center of the release is the Newton Physics Engine, an open-source, GPU-accelerated simulator codeveloped with Google DeepMind and Disney Research.

Now available in Nvidia Isaac Lab and managed by the Linux Foundation, Newton is built to handle the complex balance and motion challenges of humanoid robots. [Read more…] about Nvidia launches new open-source models and simulation tools to accelerate robotics research

Interview: RealSense senior executive discusses life after Intel

September 27, 2025 by Sam Francis

For more than a decade, Intel’s RealSense cameras have been synonymous with 3D perception – powering robots, drones, and biometric systems with the ability to sense and interpret the physical world.

Now, after spinning out from Intel, RealSense is charting its own course as an independent company focused squarely on what it calls “Physical AI”: equipping machines with vision that is not just human-like, but in many cases better than human.

At the centre of this transition is Mike Nielsen, chief marketing officer at RealSense, who is helping define the company’s identity beyond Intel’s shadow. [Read more…] about Interview: RealSense senior executive discusses life after Intel

AiMOGA humanoid robot becomes first to achieve European certification

September 26, 2025 by Sam Francis

AiMOGA Robotics, a business unit of Chinese automotive company Chery, says its “Mornine” humanoid robot has become “the first to officially achieve three core EU certifications – CE-MD (Machinery Safety), CE-RED (Radio Equipment), and EN 18031 (Cybersecurity and Data Protection)”.

This makes Mornine “the world’s first humanoid robot certified in both hardware and software under the European Union framework”, says the company.

The certifications were conducted by TÜV Rheinland, a globally recognized independent testing organization. The CE-MD certificate covers mechanical, electrical, and functional safety across system design and development.
