How AI is powering the next generation of robots – insights from a leading global conference

April 16, 2026 by David Edwards

The 2026 Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Conference (CVPR), which annually unveils the latest research in support of artificial intelligence (AI), embodied AI and robotics, multi-modal AI, wearable AI, spatial computing, AI agents, and much more, will serve as one of the foremost forums to showcase how advances in AI are accelerating next-gen robotics from concept to real-world deployment.

Co-sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society (CS) and the Computer Vision Foundation (CVF), CVPR, an annual launchpad for breakthroughs in AI, and this year for robotics, will convene the leading research, companies, and applications redefining what robots can see, understand, and do.

Through its program, CVPR 2026, which takes place 3-7 June at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado, USA, will reveal how AI is fueling rapid innovation in robotics, automation, and embodied intelligence. Siemens, Nvidia and Humanoid partner to bring physical AI into factory operations

April 16, 2026 by David Edwards

Siemens and Humanoid has announced what it says is “a landmark milestone” in the journey to bring physical AI from vision to industrial reality.

Humanoid’s HMND 01 wheeled Alpha humanoid robot, built using the Nvidia physical AI stack, has been successfully tested in operations at Siemens’ electronics factory in Erlangen, Germany, performing autonomous logistics tasks. (See video below.)

This builds on the Siemens and Nvidia strategic partnership, announced at CES, to build the world’s first fully AI-driven, adaptive manufacturing sites. [Read more…] about Siemens, Nvidia and Humanoid partner to bring physical AI into factory operations

Snack sector shifts drive rethink of end-of-line automation strategies

April 16, 2026 by David Edwards

The global snack industry is undergoing a structural shift that is forcing manufacturers to rethink how production lines are designed, particularly at the end-of-line stage where packaging and case handling take place.

While the sector continues to grow, industry observers say the more significant change lies in the increasing complexity of production. A proliferation of product formats – from single-serve packs to multipacks and e-commerce-ready cartons – is driving a sharp rise in SKU counts, placing new demands on manufacturing systems.

Production environments that were once optimized for long, stable runs are now required to handle near-continuous changeovers. [Read more…] about Snack sector shifts drive rethink of end-of-line automation strategies

The Role of an Offset Striking Wrench in Modern Robotics

April 16, 2026 by David Edwards

Modern robotics is often associated with advanced software, artificial intelligence, and precision automation. However, behind every robotic system lies a foundation of mechanical engineering, where robust tools still play a critical role.

Among these tools, the offset striking wrench stands out as an essential instrument in assembly, maintenance, and heavy-duty robotic applications. [Read more…] about The Role of an Offset Striking Wrench in Modern Robotics

Top Concrete Barrier Options for Long-Term Construction Safety

April 16, 2026 by David Edwards

When you’re managing a construction project that runs for months or even years, precast concrete barriers become your frontline defense.

They redirect vehicles, shield workers, separate traffic lanes, and secure perimeters where temporary plastic or water-filled options simply won’t hold up.

Projects with sustained heavy traffic exposure demand barriers built to DOT, MASH, or NCHRP 350 standards. That’s what highway engineers and construction managers across the country rely on. [Read more…] about Top Concrete Barrier Options for Long-Term Construction Safety

Reducing Time-to-Market in Robotics with Digital Manufacturing Platforms

April 15, 2026 by David Edwards

The growing pressure on robotics teams to move faster

Robotics companies are under more pressure than ever to accelerate development timelines. Whether building industrial automation systems, autonomous platforms, or next-generation robotic hardware, teams are expected to move from concept to production faster – without compromising reliability or performance.

At the same time, hardware development is becoming more complex. Mechanical systems, electronics, and software must all come together seamlessly, and each iteration requires physical validation. That’s where many teams run into trouble.

According to Fictiv’s 2026 State of Manufacturing & Supply Chain Report, nearly half of manufacturing leaders say they are struggling to do more with fewer resources, while still navigating supply chain disruptions and rising costs. For robotics teams, those pressures show up most clearly in one place: prototyping. [Read more…] about Reducing Time-to-Market in Robotics with Digital Manufacturing Platforms

Interview with Volvo Autonomous Solutions: Driverless trucks are upon us

April 15, 2026 by David Edwards

As the global logistics industry grapples with persistent driver shortages, rising operating costs, and increasing pressure to improve efficiency, autonomous trucking is beginning to move beyond promise and into early-stage commercial reality.

For much of the past decade, the technology has been described as “almost ready” – a phrase that has invited both optimism and skepticism.

Today, that characterization is starting to shift. Autonomous trucks are now hauling real freight on public roads, albeit within limited routes and often still under human supervision, marking a transitional phase between pilot programs and true large-scale deployment.
