IDS unveils new camera models for special requirements in factory automation

August 20, 2021 by David Edwards

IDS Imaging Development Systems has unveiled new industrial camera models for special requirements in factory automation. The uEye FA camera series integrates new sensors – the 12 and 20 MP Sony Starvis and 5 MP polarisation sensor.

uEye FA industrial cameras are particularly robust and therefore ideally suited for demanding environmental conditions, for example in factory automation. Starting in August, IDS will offer three new sensors in the family.

The 12 MP (IMX226) and 20.44 MP (IMX183) Sony sensors are true high-performers with high resolution and low noise. For special requirements, the company will also integrate the 5 MP polarisation sensor IMX250MZR. [Read more…] about IDS unveils new camera models for special requirements in factory automation

DFI celebrates 40th anniversary with continuing IoT innovation

August 20, 2021 by David Edwards

In the past 40 years, technology has greatly changed the way we live and do business. Especially in the latter half of that period, the Internet and the Internet of Smart Things have completely changed the appearance of global industries

In 40 years, DFI has undergone a series of growth and evolution, transforming from a purely electronic components supplier to a global leading provider of diverse Industrial PC (IPC) solutions.

Starting with consumer IT products in the 1980s, DFI engaged in a transitional journey into the IT future. Early product lines gave way to the changing market circumstances and led to the innovative and renowned LANParty products of the 1990s, which set the stage for DFI’s shift into more sophisticated industrial computing technologies in 2004. This decisive strategy change has led DFI to further rapid growth and significant financial success. [Read more…] about DFI celebrates 40th anniversary with continuing IoT innovation

Current Trends in Automated Manufacturing Lines

August 20, 2021 by Liv

A lot has been debated on how the fourth industrial revolution will provide manufacturers with vast opportunities to use advanced tools throughout the manufacturing cycle.

While there isn’t a doubt that the fourth industrial revolution has enhanced operational efficacy, it’s time to turn towards industry 5.0 – a preliminary facet of the sixth revolution.

Process and manufacturing automation is one of the fastest-growing fields in production in Latin America. With an expected CAGR of slightly over 11% over the period 2025-2025, Latin America has transformed itself into a block of emerging economies fueled by production. Geek+ and WSR Solutions launch smart palletizing solution

August 18, 2021 by Mai Tao

Geek+, a provider of autonomous mobile robots for warehouses, has launched a new solution for “Smart Mixed Case palletizing”, co-developed with WSR Solutions, a provider of intelligent warehouse management tools.

The solution combines Geek+ autonomous mobile robots and WSR’s intelligent palletizing algorithm to help warehouse operators systematically handle the processing of multiple outbound orders in an efficient, safe, and flexible way.

Lit Fung, vice president of APAC, UK and the Americas at Geek+, says: “We are thrilled to work together with WSR Solutions to provide a tool that targets every aspect of the outbound logistics process, from how goods are stored and moved around the warehouse to how pallets are stacked, streamlining processes by eliminating the need for re-palletization, and optimizing overall space utilization.” [Read more…] about Geek+ and WSR Solutions launch smart palletizing solution

Getting dressed with help from robots

August 12, 2021 by David Edwards

MIT has demonstrated a “human-aware motion planning algorithm” that addresses the safety gap in collaboration between robots and humans – and could be used to make robots help people get dressed. (See video below.)

Basic safety needs in the paleolithic era have largely evolved with the onset of the industrial and cognitive revolutions. We interact a little less with raw materials, and interface a little more with machines.

Robots don’t have the same hardwired behavioral awareness and control, so secure collaboration with humans requires methodical planning and coordination. You can likely assume your friend can fill up your morning coffee cup without spilling on you, but for a robot, this seemingly simple task requires careful observation and comprehension of human behavior.

Scientists from MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) have recently created a new algorithm to help a robot find efficient motion plans to ensure physical safety of its human counterpart. In this case, the bot helped put a jacket on a human, which could potentially prove to be a powerful tool in expanding assistance for those with disabilities or limited mobility.
